>Non-believers call on God when faced with a crisis - despite insisting they're not religious

>A third of people pray in the morning or before they go to sleep. People are also increasingly likely to solicit support from God while cooking or exercising.

>And one in five pray while doing household chores while 15 per cent pray while they commute.

>A strong 42 per cent of prayers thanked God, while 40 per cent asked for healing and another 40 per cent included mention of friends.

Is atheism just a meme and are most people just really lazy Christians?

These phrases are just very integrated in today's society and people are too lazy to take atheism seriously

There are definitely some ultraspergs who go "praise Dawkins!", but these are dedicated in their nonbelief and very fringe

Atheism is literally a mental disorder, especially since most atheists are just larpers or theists in denial.

Nonetheless, praying when you are in a bind is for most a sign of desperation which, once they get out of, they will mostly go back to being ignorant of God, the Faith etc.

Loving God is instinctive, it is the default to love God, so it makes sense that people would turn to Him

>Is atheism just a meme and are most people just really lazy Christians?

Churches are graying and emptying, abortion and homosexuality have mainstream acceptance almost everywhere. Just because people utter a few culturally ingrained phrases like "thank God" or "Jesus Christ!!!" or incorporate Christ into superstition and folk religion doesnt mean they are just lazy.

aeb551 No.589752

There's no such thing as an atheist in the trenches. Even the North Pond hermit prayed to not freeze to death.

You are right that they aren't Christians, but you're wrong in regards to them being lazy. Actual atheists are few in number, most of these people who fail to join a proper religion just end up believing in a bunch of superstitions and vague concepts. It's a lot easier to believe in some sort of non-threatening god who's got your back, agrees 100% with your own personal morality, and will be sure to let you into non-judgmental heaven where you can hang out with all your friends and family.

Isn't it blasphemy to call on God while cooking a fucking chicken? I'm pretty sure using the Lord's name in vain is a sin.

Wow, it’s almost like invoking God’s help to get you out of a situation is a positively selected trait.

Very surprised it's only a quarter. Then again, this is according to a poll, where fedoras would very likely lie, rather than admit they are hypocrites. Also, we generally live in a comfortable society, so it's not like we're talking about nonexistent "trench atheists."

If you mean swearing then yes that's not ok but the Bible does call on people to pray incessantly

'Pray without ceasing.'

To many it's just an alias for <I am caught in circumstance I had no real influence on and have to get out of now or suffer badly>

God rolls off the tongue more better.

Depends…my father was an atheist, but always questioning his views and the world around him: he found God in his late 40s. Some yes, are just lazy Christians.
