How could Paul's statement to engage in frequent marital relations be followed, at the time, without contraception?

"Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control."

1 Corinthians 7:5

The alternative would be contraceptive methods which would involve wasting seed (which was opposed for centuries) or some form of natural family planning (which was opposed by Augustine, see below).

"Is it not you who used to warn us to watch as much as we could the time after purification of the menses when a woman is likely to conceive, and at that time refrain from intercourse, lest a soul be implicated in the flesh? From this it follows that you consider marriage is not to procreate children, but to satiate lust. Marriage, as the marriage tablets themselves proclaim, joins male and female for the procreation of children. Whoever says that to procreate children is a worse sin than to copulate thereby prohibits marriage; and he makes the woman no more a wife but a harlot, who, when she has been given certain gifts, is joined to man to satisfy his lust. If there is a wife there is matrimony. But there is no matrimony where motherhood is prevented; for then there is no wife". (Augustine - The Morals of the Manichees 18.65 PL 32:1373)

(Psalms 127:3-5)

{3} "Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

{4} As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

{5} Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate."

Every year for decades and risking birth defects when a woman is in her 40s? A married couple at 20 would have 25-30 kids.

I don't even see traditional Catholics do this. They peak out before 10. So, nearly all Christian marriages are ungodly because they don't have 20 kids?

The reality is that no one is fertile enough to allow 20 new people to enter our world.

My dad worked with these 2 brothers from a family with 24 kids

Crazy

With that said I plan on having lots of no condom sex with my wife and having as many children as God seems fit

There are exactly zero commandments or Levitical laws that prohibit sex with your wife when she isn’t ovulating. But still, having lots of kids is a good thing.

People aren't as fertile as you think. That being said if you don't want kids don't have sex.

St Catherine of Siena had I think about 25 siblings or something. Half of them died shortly after birth though.

Do you not have faith in God? It is written, "Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the LORD: shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb? saith thy God." He knows how many children are right for you.

Birth defects is a (((meme))). Yes you'll have defects in any birth if you give them a good goyim western pufa diet. Feed properly with pastured livestock and fruits like the ancient world did though and you'll have no defects. Your post OP just shows how much our societal knowledge has devolved. Married couples are supposed to have a child every three years (women can't get pregnant when they breastfeed of which you are supposed to do for two years to not have a cretin baby) until menopause which usually means 10 children. This is how God intended hence why he had it written in scripture.

>woman is in her 40s

>birth defects

That's actually a non-issue and has no basis whatsoever in medical science outside of a 0.05% potential increase in the risk of autism. The reality of it is that women are the primary caregivers and teachers of the children. Do you trust your child's care and education to some 20 year old idiot who only moved out of her parent's house because she got married?

Women should be having the majority of their children in their late 20s to early 30s - same with men - and can keep on havin' them until menopause. Women are born with 6-7 million eggs. You do the math on how many monthly periods a woman can have before she runs out.

Stop buying into 1930s "science" and memes.

>who only moved out of her parent's house because she got married?

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Leave father and mother and cleave unto your wife. I'd rather take a girl who lives at home with her mom and dad (regardless of her age) than a girl who moved out for (((college))) or (((the workforce)))

Women aren't fertile during the entire month so just have sex during non fertile period.

e4f7e1 No.586571

I don't know the context but just from what you quoted, to me it sounds like Augustine is talking about practicing NFP for life so that the wife never conceives. That is very different from abstaining for a time because of grave circumstances with the intent to eventually have children.

I hate theological talk about marriage

The Church positions flay wildly everywhere and I hate them. Trying to conceive how 1 Corinthians 7 could POSSIBLY be molded into Catholic ethics is a huge stretch. You can justify the Saints, you can justify purgatory(or praying people out of hell for the Orthodox), you can actually explain many things that are in the bible unlike what protestants meme, but when I reach 1Cor. 7 I hit a huge wall because it actually goes against the Church position.

I'm thinking maybe I should just abandon this, but then I would just enter in conflict again when I want to marry.

If your wife breastfeeds her pregnancies will be naturally spaced out 2 years apart. That's how anderson does it. You just have to work diligently and have faith that God will help you along the way.

Matthew 6:31 - 6:32

ef1303 No.586634

>>586628

>I say this as a concession, not as a command. I wish that all of you were as I am. But each of you has your own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.

Form what I have gathered, this would strongly go against the Catholic position on marriage, since they encourages everyone to marry, because Genesis 9:7 says that they should "go forth and reproduce". But it is clear that all people that can be chaste, should be, and it is also clear that the Apostle wished that everyone that read his words would become chaste.

Then comes 1 Timothy 3, sorry for the sudden jump but its part of the problem. Now, let me quote the passage: "The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to wthe office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife".

Now, the Bible has clearly mentioned married priests. Some churches in communion with the Roman Catholic Church, such as the Eastern Catholic church, even noticed this and asked permission for married clergy.

f989fe No.586654

>>586634

Catholics clearly don't encourage everyone to marry, since they're harder on clerical celibacy than we are. And both Catholics and Orthodox are held by the standards of monasticism, and monks and nuns most definitely must not be married.

>Some churches in communion with the Roman Catholic Church, such as the Eastern Catholic church, even noticed this and asked permission for married clergy.

No Catholic or Orthodox church allows for married bishops though. But that is only a disciplinary matter. There isn't something intrinsically wrong with a bishop who's married.
