When I was in middle school I painted gourds as decorations for Christmas and I decided that enough was enough, I shouldn't be drawing Santa and reindeer so much and neglect imagery of my own religion so much. I was uncomfortable drawing Jesus, since I didn't know what he looked like but I knew he didn't look like the paintings of him I'd seen, and the angels I'd seen in artwork weren't accurate either. So what do you suggest I draw/paint for Christmas, and do you have any suggestions for an accurate nativity set that I can purchase and use to decorate my house to properly honor God this holiday season?

No need for a set when you have this

I think that's about as accurate as it gets

>I was uncomfortable drawing Jesus, since I didn't know what he looked like but I knew he didn't look like the paintings of him I'd seen

Actually he did. The Shroud of Turin looks very similar to western artists' paintings.

the credibility of The Shroud of Turin is questionable, it may very well be just legend. Not that it matters, traditional paintings of Jesus do not resemble The Shroud of Turin outside of the hair/facial hair. He would not have had light brown hair, white skin, and pink full cheeks.

Did you or did you not read the image?

did you read the second half of mine?

you said

> The Shroud of Turin looks very similar to western artists' paintings.

and i said, no, the shroud does not resemble the traditional image of jesus outside of having long hair and whiskers. the images in that picture show a different man than the one here. thank you, though. i do appreciate the help.

It does kind of resemble though

When you do a bit more reading the image becomes hyper suspect. It essentially hinges on there being an undocumented and invisible repair that was so expertly done it was impossible to detect and that this perfectly done repair used a different method from all the other repairs carried out on it.

Not only that but instead of just carbon dating an "uncorrupted" portion he chose to uses a different and dubious method of testing.

There is a reason why the Catholic Church refuses to declare it as being legitimate.

What are you babbling about ? The Shroud has been proven have biological creatine pigments in it ffs.

Atomic resolution studies detect new biologic evidences on the Turin Shroud. - PubMed - NCBI https://www/.

But your study doesn't address anything in my post? It doesnt address the carbon dating, the alternative method of dating or why the Catholic Church refuses to state outright that its the burial shroud of Jesus.

>the Shroud has been proven have biological creatine pigments in it ffs.

In a material that was made roughly 1400 years after the death of Jesus.

When you obsess over material details (what hair color did Jesus have?) you are missing the point. The nativity was an event of cosmic significance, take a look at the nativity icon in >>562726; who care about mundane details when there is much deeper meaning embedded in the icon? Icons are intentionally not physically accurate, they are not intended to be like photographs.

Angels look like men according to the story of Sodom, etc. Other types of more inhuman looking creatures like Ophanim (wheels) and Cherubim exist. The Bible does not call them angels, although Catholic theologians categorized these as orders of angels.
