>pantheism?

>noun: pantheism 1. a doctrine which identifies God with the universe, or regards the universe as a manifestation of God.

no.

13c8dc No.559408

Pantheism implies the universe is non contingent which makes no sense since we observe change in the universe

can you elaborate on this for dum dums like me pls?

cb2b61 No.559419

fake and gay

328976 No.559423

>>559404

Worse than atheism tbh.

e50c0d No.559429

In my opinion it's a false religion and pantheists need to convert to christianity.

>>559413

this, pls explain

b45c49 No.559476

>>559413

>>559429

It's saying that we can affect change in the universe just as God can, which would mean we are just as powerful as God, which would be heresy. It also implies that God was not the creator of the universe, which is also heresy.

41311b No.559496

>>559408

Depends, pantheism can involve the Aether. Aether itself is eternal, but it's modalities are not.

b3e017 No.559498

>>559476

Thanks, but I was looking for why it is logically inconsistent on its own terms ("it makes no sense"), not why it's heresy from the Christian perspective

535cda No.559503

It's on you to outline what philosophy it entails and why it's essential. How I see it, it's no different from claiming God dreams of ice cream. It doesn't help me understand God, world or connect either with an essential Truth.

c726fc No.559510

What would being omnipresent actually look like?

>it's no different from claiming God dreams of ice cream. It doesn't help me understand God, world or connect either with an essential Truth

If you mean pantheism, then I would say I feel the same.

>It's on you to outline what philosophy it entails and why it's essential.

I'm sorry I'm a dum dum like I said, so not sure what you mean by this or what you expect me to say. All I'm after is for someone to explain why pantheism doesn't make sense, as the anon said it doesn't due to the universe being non-contingent. But I've since reminded myself of what contingent means (to be able to be caused, or not caused, ie it's existence relying on something to cause it to come into existence, pls school me if I misunderstand), while we know from the big bang that the universe likely had a cause that bought it into existence and so, if pantheism says the universe is uncaused (non-contingent) then that doesn't fit with what we observe in reality, and so is false, or to put it another way doesn't make sense.

b3e017 No.559520

>>559408

>since we observe change in the universe

Re-reading this part I still feel like a dum dum because I don't see how this links into the reason as to why it doesn't make sense

41311b No.559587

>>559520

>>559408

I think it's just a lapse in logic on anon's part. It's pretty much a fact that relativity and all of it's intellectual ilk is pantheistic by nature.

e3ebc8 No.559589

instant hell tbh. repent ye and embrace theism.

e4211b No.559601

Way more fun and interesting than Christianity. Still bullshit like any belief in the supernatural, though.

i would say that as well as an infinite past not making any sense since if it has happened already then it is a known thing ergo not infinite. but besides that this idea that the physical universe is just modality of a single aether would remove any practical distinctions between anything and you will often here pantheiests say this . the problem is that if nothing really has distinction as any God worth talking about wouldn't be split into smaller parts then your words would lack any actual meaning as they are in essence the same thing, and if your words lack any meaning then how can you even make an argunent for pantheism in the first place?
