c512fa No.551254

Hey /christian/

Weird thing just happened to me, I was walking down the street after buying some groceries and a man, Alex, walked up to me and engaged me in conversation. Saying he was a "Theologician" and they were putting together a bible study in the area.

I've been praying for a bible study near me because I don't drive and heard him out; he said he noticed my shirt (pic related) and so he immediately started in about how there are places where science and the bible agree. I nodded, and he continued on saying: "Did you know that there is actually a God the Mother?"

I raised my eyebrow a little bit at this since that certainly sounds like heresy to me. But he glossed over that interesting point and kept talking for a bit, assuming I was going to walk away. We exchanged numbers so that he can contact me for one of these meet ups, but after getting home I googled for "God the Mother" and found the "World Mission Church of God" which had this page about the mother thing: http://english.watv.org/truth/truth_life/content_mother.asp

Reading through it, I guess you can suck at english and read genesis's "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them" as implying male and female referrred to God, but it's clear to me that we refer to God as he here and also that the semi-colon seperates the sentence pretty well and isn't the way that these people seem to think.

So /christian/ if this person does contact me, should I go? They sound heretical, especially since they think Christ came again as this random Korean man. I'm not a great arguer in person and I don't know if I could steer them back to the path. I also hope that this post isn't taken in mean-spirit or as attacking this particular church, I've just never heard about it and am hoping you all can shed some light

definitely heresy

not even like normal run of the mill heresy either, this sounds like some cult type sh—tuff.

keep your distance brother.

Keep your distance, this is top tier heresy from a non-Christian group and a temptation from the devil. Continue to pray for a genuine Bible study.

That's kinda the vibe I was getting from them. I'll keep praying for that bible study I guess. I went to a new church the other weekend with a friend and maybe they'll do something

5b60f5 No.551274

Absolutely heretical, OP.

At first I thought you were talking about the pentecostal Church of God which is common here in the US South. They're kind of weird with the insistence that you let a pastor put his hands on you until you start experiencing xenoglossolalia, but they wouldn't really be heretical by most definitions. As it turns out, there are a great deal of churches with the 'Church of God' moniker.

One can enjoy science and love God anon. Most of the foremost scientists of the era have been God fearing men who found no contradiction between their work and his. I'm a computer scientist. There's no arguments here over the wonder of the Lord's hand in all things.

That Aside, thank you for another ''do not go' vote. I've put the contact info he gave me to a straight to voicemail setting in my phone, so hopefully that will deter if he does call, and if I run into him again I will tell him that I looked up his Church and do not agree with their blasphemy.

Don't go, it's a cult. I know a friend of a friend who is in South Korea and she is being harassed by that very same group. I can't believe I'm seeing this on /christian/ of all places. She's not even a Christian and even she knows there's something very non-Christian about that group pertaining to their doctrine. I mean, think of it this way, If a Jehovah's Witness approached you, would you go? If a car accident were to happen to you, would you take that as a "good" sign? What if it was the devil that sent that man to you? You need to start discerning these things, and you start that by reading the Bible and getting in the Spirit and seeking God. It's sad how hard people will work for a false cult, but many Christians are lax in working for the Kingdom of God.

Don't go and read your Bible. Keep praying and pray for protection.

OP will only get sucked in. They are a Grade-A cult and they are a huge problem in South Korea from what I hear. They're basically the Jehovah Witnesses of South Korea and I'm sure they'll know how to deal with him. Just stay far away and read your Bible.

Hmm, I find it interesting they interpret that verse of Genesis that way and use it that way, and it so happens I never agreed with that, because clearly the image of God was only given to the man. All you have to do is read 1 Corinthians 11:7 to see that.

>I can't believe I'm seeing this on /christian/ of all places

I don't understand, why would I not ask my brothers and sisters in Christ about someone claiming there's a God the mother. It's not like /b/ or somewhere else is going to provide me with anything but ridicule or terrible advice. Not that /christian/ is free from meanspirited people who make incorrect assumptions about lifestyle choices case in point: >>551515 but I'm more likely to get a solid answer here than anywhere else, or heck, if they consider themselves Christians there might even be one here to debate and find out more information about.

>>551359

I'm not sure I am. A while ago I got into a conversation with someone I live with about God and whatnot and I didn't do a very good job of it I think, then that happened again with another friend. I'm not an aggressive person and while I'm good at some things, arguing about God isn't one of them. If God did call me to do it he'd give me the words of course, but so far I have yet to win any souls for the Lord as far as I know.

>>551491

>They're basically the Jehovah Witnesses of South Korea

yikes. I've only met Witnesses a few times, but that was just in school and they weren't trying to bother me, I had more run in's with Mormons growing up, though since I saw them nearly everyday on my way to school or back they left me alone after I turned them down a number of times.

Anyway >>551525

That's a good verse to have on reference if I run into them again. When I was walking home I was thinking to myself: God made Eve from Adam's rib, he molded her, but it was as a companion. Genesis does say he created man, maybe that could be read as mankind, but even still, it's such an odd reading of the verse to assume that because we're made in his image that somehow that means God has a female image as well as a male. I mean, who knows, maybe gender doesn't even apply to God, but still, what a weird weird reading of the verse.

Thank you to all the helpful advice given. Keep me in your prayers. If that was something evil coming toward me with temptation than I would appreciate strengthening prayers of protection from you all. Thank you.

No one said that CS not an actual field, but it is not a science in the same sense that physics, biology or chemistry are. And you don't need a computer to practice it (although it does come in handy obviously). A better term would have been "logic engineering". That GIF is from the SIPC lectures given at MIT. Every computer scientist should read SICP (and do the exercises! all of them) and watch the lectures.

Alright, so I don't know where to go exactly to talk about this, but awhile back a friend of mine fell into this cult when a recruiter approached him in college. The last time we talked things were fine, we bullshitted around and just talked about whatever came to mind, but 2 or 3 days after he heard about this cult he was practically cackling. He became an entirely different person, his mannerisms changed completely- he used to be social and open, he would make jokes here and there, but afterwards it's like he lost his social skills even the way he spoke was completely different. He was such an entirely different person that even his own family noticed it, and he tried to recruit his younger brother who was able to see past that bullshit.

He's been trying to get me to join his religion, and me personally I'm not a Christian but I don't know where else I can talk about this particular cult.

I don't have a photographic memory, but from what I gathered talking to him and having my friend's brother going to one of their bible studies (while having me listen in through his phone in secret) they seem to believe that the Bible is one hundred percent correct. There are predictions that have come true and will come true, I remember the recruiter using Cyrus the Great as an example for a prediction coming true. The recruiter also used the Book of Job to prove that there was some sort of connection with science and shit like that. My friend also believes that the second coming of Christ is just around the corner and all they have to do now is spread their religion around the world so everyone can hear it for it to finally happen. He used the fig tree and linked me this video to show me: http://uccspace.net/ucc/content.asp?idx=203&lang=2&category=J

All churches that have Sunday as the day of rest are wrong and are leading people astray since the holy day is supposed to be on Saturday. From what I remember talking to him not too long ago, the world is like a prison and we are all paying for our sins. We all committed horrible crimes before coming here, our memories were wiped but we all have the chance to hear the truth and reach salvation, and this is god's judgement. People that are born crippled simply committed worse crimes and they're punished accordingly.

I haven't heard too much about "God the Mother" from him, but I should really ask about that. I might end up going to one of their Bible studies, he's going to talk to some people and see if they can set it up for me in my state since we're far away from each other.

Has anyone had similar experiences? What kind of things can I bring up as counterarguments?

>What kind of things can I bring up as counterarguments?

You, as a non Christian, none. You almost certainly don't subscribe to objective morality and if so you can't make any correct arguments, just emotional ones.

From the video there apparently it is some cult called the World Mission Society Church of God from South Korea (what is it about that place that breed these wacko sects?) that I have never heard of before. I didn't find too much on them as they seem relatively nascent but I did find this brief dosser (www.watchman.org/WMSCOG.pdf) and naturally their theology is a complete mockery of Christianity. The most pressing concern though is not their wacky beliefs but that it sounds like your friend has already been brainwashed and is being exploited as a recruiting tool. You need to consult with the family, try and stage some level of intervention and maybe even look into deprogramming. I'll pray for you.

So your angry that your friend isnt a filthy degenerate, atheist, and piece of human trash anymore and now you want to bring him back to that life?. Kinda ironic how you accuse your friend of being in a cult, because it seems to me that the main cult your friend was apart of was the Cult of Nihilism and Modernism and you seem to be apart of that. Im glad he escaped it, hopefully in the future, he will have the opportunity to be actually saved.

Note: To all the retards who will have a problem with this post i am not defending "church of christ".go read the pictures this guy posted. His friends hate hate him not because hes in a cult but because hes a "Christian". They get angry over him having a fucking DAILY PRAYER NOTIFICATION
