I've been thinking of going Orthodox. I was raised a Baptist, but their theology is really shit. I want to convert to Orthodoxy. What do?

Find nearest church and become a Catechumen to become more savvy about Orthodoxy. Make sure that liturgy in the Church is in your language, so you can comprehend it.

Will I have to be baptized again?

22edff No.534044

>>534043

I doubt that, if you were baptized in the name of trinity. But it depends on the decision of a bishop.

cb6290 No.534045

>>534044

Yeah, I was when I was 14. The pastor said, "I baptize you in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost" as I got baptized.

22edff No.534047

>>534045

Then I dont think that rebaptism will be necessary. However, as I said, the final word is from the bishop and his decision.

Anyways, good luck on your journey. meanwhile read the bible and church fathers. Most importantly, read "Exposition of the Orthodox faith" by John of Damascus, its sort of "Summa Theologiae" for Orthodox

cb6290 No.534048

Alright, I guess I'll find a local Orthodox Church and attend it this Sunday and try and ask the priest about conversion.

>What brand of Christianity should I go for?

Well do you want the brand founded by Our Lord Himself, or are you wrong?

cb6290 No.534053

I do want the brand started by Jesus himself, and the Orthodox Church seems to be it.

The Bible and early Church it seems. Look, I'm not the most knowledgeable on this but I just feel so drawn to Orthodoxy, and from what I have been reading so far everything seems to be leaning towards Orthodoxy. Even look at Orthodox worship, it looks so ancient.

394cc6 No.534060

the "im catholic and go to catholic church but wont give them money because the current pope is not a real pope." christianity.

bonus points for

>israels existence is a middle finger to God

>pastor anderson is right about many things but still a very flawed christian (as we all are)

>personal relationship with God

>its not worth it to sacrifice your community and their souls for a chance at converting some barbarians.

Join a conservative Presbyterian Church!

We are confessional, biblical and Orthodox in teaching. We have simple services that focus on the word and the community. Less pomp than high church but more reverence than low church.

Well im from Ireland so I go to the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. However my church has relation with US presby churches and I have visited some.

If you are a yank I would recommend the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA).

If there aren't any nearby I know of other solid reformed churches.

>The Bible and early Church it seems.

With respect, this is a really vague answer that doesn't mean anything.

>Even look at Orthodox worship, it looks so ancient.

>it looks so ancient

>it looks

I've found your problem. Worship isn't "ancient", it's eternal. If you just want gratifying aesthetics and smells-and-bells, by all means go for it.

However if you want actual substance and to praise and worship Our Lord, come West.

No salvation outside of the catholic church

fc2d63 No.534075

You do you, but ABSOLUTELY AVOID UNDER ALL CIRCUMSTANCES:

- Female clergy

- Gay "marriage"

- Churches with bizarre doctrine on repentance (such as the "once saved always saved" type who say repentence isn't necessary for salvation, and the "Andersonite" type who say that certain people are intrinsically unable to repent)

- Any church that tells you Catholics aren't Christians

cb8597 No.534078

This kind of question usually ends up with everyone calling everyone satan, just do your research on your own OP.

But do ignore all sources from the US.
