This type of thinking is exactly what gives us garbage like the U2charist and embed related.
The fact is, selling out Christianity to whatever the latest fad is will push more people away then it brings in. My church has both a contemporary service and a traditional service, and the traditional consistently brings in higher numbers.
When you go to church, you go there because you want to hear the word of God, worship him, and receive the sacraments. You don't go there to see the cool new thing, and if you do, your butt doesn't belong in that pew.
Sorry for the rant, contemporary-ism just cheeses me off. As for the actual hymn itself, seems like an accident to me.
