A sack is not a mask. CIA would be clinically retarded if he asked Bane if he would die from pulling off a “mask” that he had already pulled off. The mask refers to Bane’s respirator/painkiller delivery system that makes up the device on his face, a system that delivers drugs that make Bane immune to everything except plot convenience.

Rewatch the movie, he clearly means the black mask covering all of Bane's face, not the metal tubes over his mouth after his mask has been pulled off.

After Quantum Break, time is relative for CIA. He isn't asking a question about something that has already happened and is now irrelevant. He's asking a question he knows has to be asked because he already knows it's been asked.
