The way I feel about it is that my ancestors were among the first whites to get here, we fought the aborigines for the land and won; it's ours by right of conquest. My ancestors toiled to build the country to what it is today, so it makes sense that I deserve to enjoy the fruits of their labour more than foreigners who are only just recently immigrating.

I don't see being a colonial nation as much of a problem; I am more concerned about the fact that Australia has always struggled to build a single national identity, due to being such a young country. This has allowed leftists in recent years to come in and claim that since we don't have a single national identity we should just allow multiculturalism to be our national identity.

One of the biggest problems I see about Australia is that we can be really apathetic about things; people don't mind if you make a terrible changes, as long as you only made the changes gradually. Australians like to stick with the status quo, so if you slowly move the status quo towards what you want to do, they won't complain until it is too late. Whereas if you try to correct the change quickly then they will complain, even if you are just trying to move the status quo back to where it was orginally. The way I see it, it will be really difficult for ethno-nationalism to gain a foothold in Australia without outside intervention, simply because we have compulsory voting, which means the majority of people will always end up voting for the major parties, even if they don't really agree with them, which dilutes the amount of influence fringe parties can have.
