Not the original poster, but there was a definite change in atmosphere around the time the Trump campaign started.
The original Christian generals were mostly Orthodox who fapped to mother Russia and usually kept it to themselves. You'd get some Christian shitposting, but not the same way we see today. They were the ones who started the "/pol/ is a Christian board" may may, with a bit of irony because it was actually a NSFW board full of nigger cocks.
Then, around the time the election started to rear its ugly head, you suddenly got the comment section from Drudge Report taking a shit all over the place. No irony, no self-awareness, no humor, none of the things that were entrenched in imageboard culture. Instead, it was just low-IQ shitposting and every reply to a post was a two sentence contradiction. Then they learned what shills and muh dee un see was, and like a child who learned a new word, started applying it to everything they didn't like.
Ironically, they're the biggest D&Cers of them all, since they basically made the half of /pol/ that wasn't Christian but mostly viewed them with neutrality or favorability, start to see /pol/ Christians as a bunch of ignorant, endlessly triggered, pushy, childish, right-wing SJWs who were impossible to get along with.
