They were the only nation in the Far East that wasn't colonized and didn't trade with European nations. You think that had something to do with it? Commodore Perry forced Japan with a fleet of rather large rather impressive battle ships to open their ports and sign a trade agreement with the US otherwise the US would return, invade, and make Japan a US territory. Learn your history.
No, they weren't.
Except if you read your history Japan was petrified of being fucked by the west into becoming a shell of what it thought it was. It was terrified of being a colony. Which is why it acted so aggressively in the years prior to WWII, with both Sino-Japanese wars and the Russo-Japanese war.
Does that justify their attack? No, but it explains it. It shows it was an attack that was prompted by us.
>>2196157
It wasn't our problem. And both Japan and Germany were already flagging in their aggression and starting to get significant push back from both the Aliied powers before the Americans got involved and significantly large resistance movements in their occupied territory.

Only 2% of the nation is filled with trash! Haha! See? Only a little tiny bit of the environment is being destroyed! And what about now, with the fucking massive garbage patch in the Pacific Ocean that is having catastrophic consequences on the ecosystem there, right now?
One of the main chemicals used in the fracking process is methane, and it is estimated that 4% of it escapes into the atmosphere during extraction. Because methane is 25 times stronger than carbon dioxide in terms of trapping heat, the release of this gas is detrimental to the air quality of surrounding fracking sites. Additionally, the ancillary components of fracking directly increase air pollution at well sites. These include the pollutants released from new construction and subsequent operation of fracking locations, the increased emissions from transporting oil and gas from the site, and emissions from waste disposal and storage. Pollutants increase the production and long-term lingering of smog, which decreases the availability of clean air for workers and local residents.
Millions of gallons of water are used in the fracking process, which directly reduces the amount of clean water available to surrounding residents. When water is not available to fracking sites locally, it may be transported from other regions, ultimately drawing down available water from lakes and rivers across the country. Water contamination could also reduce the overall water supply of regional fracking areas, as the chemicals that are used in the process have the propensity to leak back into local water supplies.
Wast water is also an issue at fracking sites. Between 20% and 40% of the water used for fracking that is returned to the ground surface consists of toxic contaminants. The presence of wastewater has harmful ramifications for the environment, as it cannot be easily treated and returned to a usable state – for purposes other than fracking, that is.
In addition to air and water pollution, fracking also increases the potential for oil spills, which can harm the soil and surrounding vegetation. Fracking may cause earthquakes due to the high pressure used to extract oil and gas from rock and the storage of excess wastewater on site.
30% is horrid, so get those 30% off of welfare. Don't punish the 70% that need it. That's not how it works at all. To say that children who grow up on welfare are going to be dependent on welfare is to claim to have perfect knowledge of outcomes. There has been no study I have ever seen which proves this is the case.
It's not our problem and it's not game theory. Getting involved in foreign affairs is not the best way to ensure our domestic survival at all.

> The terms of the agreement were dictated by the Americans and Japan was forced to sign under threat of invasion by a technologically superior nation.
Yes the terms were forced on them initially, but Japan literally prospered under industrializing grew in power and was basically recognized by almost every power on the world stage.
>Except they weren't. They were still under the process of industrializing. Even by the time WWII rolled around there were still large parts of the country with no industrialization at all.
Large parts of America had little to no industrialization leading up into the new millennia, but no one says that America wasn't industrialized. Japan, like America, was technologically relative to other European Powers and everyone recognized them as a developed and industrialized nation.
>No, it wasn't a decade or two, it was close to 100 years. Starting in 1853 and ending with the end of WWII.
That's why they started War after War for land conquest and colonization from the late 1800's leading up to WW2.
>Except they did do it for defensive purposes. We put an embargo on them, so they attacked us. They viewed our embargo as an act of aggresssion.
By no standard of engagement holds embargo's as a form of aggression in the same respect as a military attack. Also Japan could still trade with whomever they wanted to other than the United States and the allies that also disavowed Japan's pillaging of the Far East. America was even still in diplomatic negotiations up to and including the day before the Pearl Harbor attacks, trying to get Japan to back off of conquest and resume trading.
01e50a No.2196270
>>2196269
Yet they were still under constant threat of invasion.
Yeah, and I wouldn't call the US a completely industrialized nation by the 20th Century. Again, they didn't until into the 20th Century. His claim was that in the 47 years after Perry Japan was fully industrialized and up the European and American standards. They were not.
That's what I was saying.
No, they couldn't trade with whomever they wanted. No European nation was trading with them. They had an alliance with the Nazi, but that didn't actually benefit them at all. Japan couldn't trade because American put an embargo on them. They would only life the embargo under terms deemed unfair to the Japanese.

I dunno, because I want to I guess. I have a vague irrational dislike for everything either being tied to steam or on huge, 60gb installs with clunky launchers. I miss the days of having a bunch of small games in their own folders with simple, portable .exe's. So I'm throwing a bunch of mustplay tier games on the flashdrive I carry pretty often anyway. I'm under no illusions that I'll actually get any use out of this though, it's pretty much just for its own sake.
Well, 'a bit groggy' isn't doing too bad for getting drunk with friends. And gud, go run.
