Of the qualifiers, group phase and KO games I've seen only the germany-south korea game (in full) and the last 10 minutes of extension and penalty shootout of croatia-denmark just now.
But since I'm not as stunted in critical thinking as you are, I'm going to answer your question from the perspective of a normie football enthusiast: football is a lifestyle, it is something to get excited about, the community sees itself as family, the game involves a lot of strategy and strategic thinking, athleticism, it gives you the privilege of being your own commentator (most people are highly critical of every move) and referee, and you can go watch the games in a stadium yourself (which I can attest is vastly different from watching at home). As side benefits, you may get breaks from work, or if you're into sport bets, it's easy to get into tips.
