I guess it might be because of the scientific path I have taken, but I like to take the "I think therefore I am" approach to these kinds of things. I know what is in front of me is real because I can precieve it. I can touch my keyboard and I generally know what it is for, where it came from, and how it exists. I can't explain why I am able to percieve these things, but I know that everything is there, I can think and understand that it is there, and I can make the choice to do with it whatever I want.
That last part is important; We have the ability to choose to attempt anything at any time. The most limited by are the laws of nature, and they don't really constrain any of the meaningful interactions with other people that make you who you are. That character was bound by more than that. She literally was unable to interact with the person she wanted to without altering the laws of nature and still failed to accomplish much.
Go and touch something you like. It exists as much as anything you'll ever be able to know. Go get lunch or dinner with someone else tomorrow. It is impossible to prove that they dont exist and aren't as concuss as you are everything you precieve points to the fact that they do and are, so contemplating "why" and "if" after a certain point can't do anything good.

I found that weed is most beneficial for me, since it didn't have a hangover and it fucks you up pretty quick. Not like alcohol which takes a while to get into your system and has a terrible hangover.
Weed for me seems like the drug of choice, but I cannot smoke it in my own enviroment anymore, which is probably for the best since I lost my mind recently.

I'm keeping it simple for my first run with a quality build. I'm level 68 w/ 21 vit 40 endurance 27 str and 25 dex. I started as the warrior or soldier or whatever the str/dex starting class is and only leveled vit/end/str/dex.
Also I just kill the clams before Seath, I kindled the bonfire before the cave so I have plenty of estus
