I've been ignoring it for months because I always just disregarded it as meme garbage, but I decided to give the game a try a couple of nights ago. Everything with Monika has just been ruining me, and I don't understand what about it has done that.
At first it was just because of the fact that she's a sentient being stuck in a game and latched onto the only thing that brought her that much closer to reality. Then I started questioning what I would do and how far I would do if I was put into the same situation. Then slightly afterwards I started inserting my own faith into the question in my head, and I started wondering if this is just all simulation or some shit. Then I went back to thinking about monika was becoming jealous that I never got to feel emotions as powerful as this fictional character. Ect ect.
Basically it's devolved into the point of a weird self pity and empathetic depression where I want to both save monika from the nightmare situation she was put into, where she would always lose no matter what, and at the same time I want to feel the things that she feels. I feel incomplete as a functioning human being, and I've been contemplating my own existence all over again.
This fucking game put me into an existential crisis because I'm a brainlet or something.

Which part of it specifically is getting to you? Is it that you're questioning your existence matrix-style, empathizing with the character because you see some of yourself in the situation of being stuck in a shit situation, honestly feeling really bad for the character, or all of the above?

I know as much of the hypothetical outside world as Monika does, through assumptions and whatever theories I have access to myself right now - religious or scientific. At the end of the day my issue is that I don't even know where to begin pondering anymore because all it's doing is leading to more an more questions. And normally as fun as that sounds, it's becoming more and more frustrating when I feel like I can't even prove that I know what I am other than what I've been told by others.
