It is truly a bad game, objectively speaking.
The more you know about the A.I., the more horrifying it gets. It is actually pretty straight-forward and effective for the most part, believe it or not. It's not like the A.I. is so dumb that you can outplay it effortlessly. If the A.I. is winning, it is very difficult to recover. It's an escalating mechanic - the A.I. isn't allowed to play magics, equips and traps, not even allowed to fuse while their side of the field is empty. The only exception is low mages and that only counts for their field magics. As long as you keep their field clear, you're going to win. If they play something you can't beat in one turn, the next turn they fuse something even stronger, or lay down traps, or equip it, basically screwing you over even more.
This is all exacerbated by the fact the A.I. has a starting hands that can be as big as 20, while you only have 5. They are scripted to play their strongest monsters (highest atk or def value, doesn't matter which one). Since their decks are randomized from a pool of cards with chances attributed to different cards, their strongest card is bound to show up at least once, and with a hand size of 20, that's already a good 50% chance to play it on the first turn every single time.
The more difficult opponents cannot be "faked out", so they kill you very fast. Faking out means playing a face down monster, the A.I. then basically flips a coin on whether it chooses to attack it or not.
Good game design right? Oh and this is 1 hour into the game. It just gets super duper hard for no reason and stays that way until the end. Konami hates children.

There are no real ways to cheese opponents in FM, that is, you need to inherently be able to beat the opponent's strongest monster. Since their decks are randomized, they may have shit decks or bad draw luck, too, so you can at least brute force. Probably a lot of children managed to reach endgame this way.
But no further than that, because the final fight is actually a marathon of 6 (or 7 depending on your route) fights against the game's most difficult opponents yet, 3 of whom get an inherent field advantage, and two of which can play blue eyes fucking ultimate dragon (usually a ritual summon). It has 4500 attack.
Lose a single battle, it's back to the start.
There is no saving the game between fights.

That's one of the rare hunters iirc, from the battle city arc. They steal rare cards from duelists. This guy's deck has 15 pieces of exodia in the deck and a bunch of cards to thin out the deck like pot of greed and graceful charity.
Funny enough, though, he was a cheater (like most antagonists in ygo lol).
The most reports of people getting exodia's in FM is from Heishin 1. Each exodia piece is a 32/2048 chance, about 1.5%. pic related.
Having at least one copy (multiple copies are allowed) of each piece in the starting deck (40 cards) is already fucking rare.
I'm a bit rusty on my bernoullis but you could imagine it to be 1 in at least 100.000 or something.
Heishin's hand size is 20, so they also have to be in the top 20 cards, or the next 3-4 which is usually the time it takes to win, assuming no additional card draws. If you lose, you usually let him kill you because clutch victories aren't worth it against heishin, because he only drops useful cards at a high duel rank (your dueling performance so to speak).
