https://www.oneangrygamer.net/2019/01/7-eleven-other-stores-to-stop-selling-hentai-in-japan-by-august-2019-due-to-foreigners-kids/75600/

http://archive.fo/3ViuC

>By the end of August, 2019, 15,000 out of 20,000 7-Eleven shops in Japan will stop selling hentai magazines and adult comics on their store shelves due to women, children, and “foreigners”.

>The news comes courtesy of Asashi Shimbun Digital, which published an article on January 21st, 2019, stating…

<“Convenience store Seven-Eleven Japan and Lawson announced on the 21st that the domestic sale of adult magazines within the store will evidently be discontinued by the end of August.

<“This is being done in consideration of customers who are women, children, and foreign visitors.

<“Selling adult magazines will likely vanish altogether from Japan’s convenience stores and over-the-counter shops.”

>They go on to explain that 15,000 of the 20,000 7-Eleven stores currently carrying adult magazines such as hentai, are being recommended by the executives at the headquarters to cease selling the magazines by August, but it also notes that individual store owners can elect to choose to keep some in stock. However, it would be going against the company mandate and they’re expected to stop selling them eventually.

>The other shop mentioned in the quote, Lawson, has already stopped selling adult magazines and hentai in Okinawa, Japan, but it’s expected to enforce that measure nationwide as well, just like 7-Eleven. In a brief news clip on the ANN News YouTube channel, they mention that the change was coming ahead of and due in part to those visiting for the 2020 Olympics taking place in Tokyo, Japan.

>Several other shops have also stopped selling adult magazines and hentai on the store shelves, including Aeon Group, which pulled the magazines back in early 2018 out of 7,000 stores.

>FamilyMart, another chain, also pulled the magazines out of approximately 2,000 shops out of the total 17,000 shops located around Japan.

According to the article, physical retail sales of adult magazines have been down by about a third of what they were a decade ago, and are mostly upheld by elderly gentlemen purchasing the fine erotic material.

>This sort of news shouldn’t be too shocking to anyone considering that back in December of 2018, Senran Kagura producer, Kenichirō Takaki, blatantly mentioned that fan-service and ecchi content was slowly being driven away, due in some part to the upcoming 2020 Olympics, and the dreaded Japanese colloquialism known as “world trends”. This has even extended as far as censoring rude gestures in the Blu-ray release of Dragon Ball. And that’s not to mention Sony’s strict censorship impositions that have affected nearly every new game being released in Japan that contains lewd content.

>Either way, the waifu holocaust continues to claim victims in the culture war, and this time the latest casualty was none other than the h-magazines on the store shelves in Japan.

>(Thanks for the news tip RoninWorks)

2019 is off to a fan-fucking-tastic start, huh?

On one hand I think 7 11 and other convenience stores would only carry the most tame and widely marketable doujins so losing them as a distributor isn't a huge deal, not to mention it isn't clear whether the materials will be completely removed or will be moved behind the counter or behind a curtain like in US bookstores.

On the other hand, good riddance. Since tame stuff will no longer be made distributed artists will be forced to create more disturbing works.

This is just routine shit. The Japanese government has given everyone of note marching orders - Do Not Make Japan Look Bad Prior To Or During The Olympics. It's public relations, just like with every other country that hosts it. The Olympics costs shitloads of money to host and they want a return with interest, not a loss in revenue alongside the tab (even if that's a joke in itself). Same shit with Nagano '98: Show your best face, don't insult foreigners, smile and look like you're the best country on earth. Maybe this will also teach them to use the internet for porn like the rest of the world.

Do you have a source for that claim? What you say is plausible, but look at it this way: trying to ban hentai and the porn industry is like getting rid of weeds. You can pull them and spray them all you want, but unless you just pave over the whole damn thing with concrete, they’re still gonna keep appearing. Same with both, or any other form of free speech, for that matter. Short of an absolutely iron-fisted kill-all-who-oppose-us approach, they can never completely get rid of the industries, and shouldn’t even really try. With the rise of borderline H-manga and light novels, I could see a resurgence in due time. There's always going to be an "underground" scene for seedy shit, and prominent mangaka like Go Nagai have fought the war and won. People are bound to riot if anything gets in their way (aside from the Olympics, which to be fair is expected as we approach 2020). Even if things seem to be going south, we still have to weigh our options and outlooks. Then again, I'm an optimistic person.

>>81756

Well, temporarily. We don't know if it'll be permanent; it's best to take some of this as speculation (TL;DR for above).

I'm not so sure these are gonna be permanent changes, for a few reasons:

>Olympics / World cup / etc have never ever ever improved a country's economy

>they usually make your government waste a lot of money into overpriced stadiums that will never be used again in the same scale

>tourism industry sees a boost during the event

>but of course it doesn't lasts

>so now you are left with a state that desperately needs to refill it's coffers / has left other infrastructure/public services to the side during the event and now needs to catch up

>economy that saw a brief boost in busyness going back into normal OR recession since gubment might need to increase tax colecting in the foreseeable future

All of these combined are bound to make nip busynesses go "wait a minute, now that the gaijin are gone, if I don't capture my old customers back I'm fucked"

Japan is different, print media of all kinds is still relevant there. I can think of a couple reasons why: collector's mentality, preference for physical things, and a surprising lack of technical competence in the general population. This is the country where nerds meticulously plan and spend entire days shopping for obscure porn comics, where the common equivalent here looks at free shit, pirates everything, or possibly throws some bucks at someone's patreon.

Sage for extremely off-topic.

Japan is the current greatest experiment on Keynesian economics in the world. Virtually every country in the world practices it, but japan has been drowning in the cool aid for way over a decade now. And it all started when? Take a guess…

When Abe was head of the economy, under the previous PM. If you know anything about austrian economics, you must have heard the meme name Abenomics at some point in the past.

tl;dr situation of japan right now is: Debt. Enormous debt. State-driven economic boosting that worked as well as a hot air baloon. The worst thing about keynesianism is that it might take just long enough to take a country to bankrupcy that people had enough time to forget what caused it.

Anime might suffer a crash soon (together with the whole economy), but not due to a shift in preferences, (((influences))) or anything of the sort. Just plain old bad and state intervention, causing another crash.

States with sovereign currencies are not like a family budget and they cannot go bankrupt. Learn some modern money theory and stop parroting the talking points of international financiers. You are not a temporarily-embarrassed billionaire, you do not owe your allegiance to them.

You're probably thinking of international trade agreements, but every sovereign entity has the ability to refuse to placate creditors if it chooses to. As a matter of fact, for the first couple millenia of human civilization there was an ancient tradition of regularly canceling the consumer debts every time a new ruler came to power. Did the world come crashing down when this happened? No, quite the opposite, society was given another period of stability after the slates were wiped clean. The Israelites got this idea from the Babylonians, they called it the jubilee year. It was only when the creditors managed to wrest control of states through marauding private armies that they were able to finally stop this tradition, which let directly to the Bronze Age Collapse.

If you want the best modern example of all the good that telling creditors to fuck off can do for an economy, you can look at the German Miracle after WWII when they completely wiped out Germany's debts.
