The constant shit-testing and bratting Holo does is conflict-seeking behavour which reminded me of all the ways Asuka tried to get an emotional response out of Shinji. Another thing is the womanly pattern of emotional outbursts followed by cheerfulness/warmth, e.g. the "Why aren't you angrier at me for fucking things up when you tried to borrow money to pay for the armour?" or "You took so long to rescue me from the tunnels" scenes in season 1. While Holo was much warmer towards Lawrence than Asuka ever was towards Shinji, keep in mind that Asuka was pretty lovey-dovey towards the cool-headed adult Kaji, and Lawrence can keep a cool head in the face of Holo's shit much better than Shinji can for Asuka, so Holo's warmth doesn't weigh so strongly against the Asuka comparison in my eyes.
As for how she's similar to Aqua, she's spending his money on fine clothes and keeps nagging him to buy the expensive honey-pickled fruit. Not to mention the fact that they're both goddesses tagging along with an everyman MC, acting silly and cheerful a lot of the time but drawing on their great power in dangerous situations. To be clear, the latter isn't something I dislike about either character.
Holo has her own personality traits on top of that, and a lot of the things she does that are reminiscent of those characters are done in a teasing spirit towards Lawrence and should be taken less seriously, so it's overstating it to say she's a mixture of the characters. But enough of those traits were present that it made me dislike the character. I liked Lawrence but I would have liked him more if he had bent Holo over his knee and spanked the bitch. The conversations where Lawrence explains to Holo about some detail of the market or human culture were another one of the high points. Overall I don't like the anime enough to watch season 2 or read the light novel.
