Just like the subject says. Post recs for self contained stories that aren't at all reliant up other properties. Something like the Cowboy Bebop movie wouldn't count. Even though it's a separate story, you still need to be familiar with the characters from watching the show to understand it. An easy example that does count would be Ghibli movies.

My recs to get started:

Negadon - Martian terraformers accidentally bring a martian Kaiju to Tokyo and a disillusioned scientist uses his mech to defeat it.

Tailenders - Racecar driver gets into an accident and some weird chick turns him into a weird car engine. They enter into a weird race and weird things happen. It's delightfully weird in a way that only the Japanese can pull off.

Royal Space Force - you've probably seen me shilling this before. A guy on another world finds meaning in life when he decides to volunteer to be the first person in space. This is the movie that nearly bankrupted Gainax before they started working on Evangelion. It's pure hand animated eye porn. It has a somewhat open ending. You've been warned.

kek, I didn't even notice the thread. Some of those were brought up and discussed (a little bit, at least) in other threads. I know at least tailenders was.

I'll rec Perfect Blue.

Pretty good murder mystery with a twist

Riding Bean - a one-shot of a planned OVA series, but that's okay as it can completely stand on its own. A fun little mini-movie that's akin to those weird indie shorts that you watched but somehow felt an attachment for it. Superb animation, good chemistry between characters, and the crisp look of late 80's anime chicago is a sight to be behold for you who have never seen it before. If you want a 'successor' then look no further than the Gunsmith Cats OVA, another (yet again) short, but sweet action romp.

Latin - In a world where robo-waifus are the norm, a deadbeat man found a discarded robo-nanny that has been thrown away for reasons unknown to her. Both of them then undergo a new life to heal each other's broken heart. Unique (imo) since it does put the ramifications of having the robot waifus in question, however rather than discussing the qualities of what makes a robot 'human' it insteads talks about how it affects the nuclear family dynamic.

Jin-Roh: Wolf Brigade - a cult classic with a very misleading premise, due to it having hardcore /k/ porno and a gory opening made it looks as if it's a sci-fi action-thriller similar to Akira. It's more than that of course but if you expect the rest of the film to be like thay, then prepare to be disappointed.

A visual treat for those that enjoys crisp animation and unconventional storytelling.

I wanna add some more but maybe later

tfw you make a thread you think will provoke lots of quality discussion, and instead it just dies pitifully

 No.73012

>make thread

>"discuss"

>contribute nothing to it

>it's other people who are the problem, for not doing things my way

You did raise a good concept, OP. You forget that discussion has to be instigated, not demanded. Plus, like >>66817 pointed out, for good or worse, some one-shots have been brought up in other threads. But don't get discouraged.

Vampire Hunter D, and Vampire Hutner D: Bloodlust

Bloodlust greatly improves over it's predecessor, being a modern classic. And you don't need to know anything before diving into it. Both work as their own self contained stories.

Well, this sucks then.

I had a phase when I mostly looked for short stuff, not necessarily one-shots, but only stuff below 25eps.

I've recently watched Bubblegum Crisis, the original OVA from the 80's. It got serialized after that, but I've been posponing watching the series.

We recently watched "I want to eat your pancreas" on the stream, so I'd like to attract some attention to it.

From wikipedia:

I Want to Eat Your Pancreas (Japanese: 君の膵臓をたべたい Hepburn: Kimi no Suizō o Tabetai), also known as Let Me Eat Your Pancreas, is a Japanese novel by Yoru Sumino. Initially serialized as a web novel in 2014, the book was published in print in 2015. A manga adaptation ran from 2016 to 2017. A live-action film titled Let Me Eat Your Pancreas premiered in 2017, and an anime film premiered on September 1, 2018.

ATTENTION

Webm is a post-credits scene

Spoilered discussion ahead:

At first I was pissed off by how she died, but later realized it had an interesting message behind it. It was even foreshadowed (but not by the reports of some maniac loose on the streets early in the movie). In fact, she specifically mentioned that she wanted to live an ordinary life to the fullest, because most people actually don't know if they will die the day after. So that's the experiemce she wanted to have. Then comes the twist: she dies not due to her terminal disease, but due to some random incident. In the end her death was even more meaningful for that reason

But what did you guys think about the movie?

 No.75666

WTF is it even about? Some of us don't get to watch the streams.

 No.75667

>>75665

It was great. A real arc for him and a purpose for her. I think that's kind of the point. I did pick up on the foreshadowing but it was the quick blurb about a stabber on the loose in another prefecture. It added a certain irony to it but the purpose of that was you never know when you're going to die so live life like you are dying because in then end we all are. Time is precious.

the title is a metaphor which gets explained in the last 10 minutes of the movie and is as good a name for the movie as any. the art was really gorgeous and mc wasn't a complete horrid cringefest even though the girl was teasing him the entire film.
