Whenever I look at CGI as a replacement for conventional animation I wonder the same thing. It's definitely possible to have good cg/3d animation but what constitutes good and the methods behind such are completely different.

The computer generated frames between keyframes maybe aren't as good as human drawn even if the animated 3d model isn't prone to errors. Animators definitely study natural human movement and by constraints omit certain details. A computer program at the basics will interpolate some body parts from point a to b.
