Wonderful manga. The plot is interesting, the worldbuilding is scrump, the art is exquisite, every character is fully realized and given adequate development, and even the little unspoken-of things like the panel-work are topnotch and original. I'm excited to read it every time it updates.

I started reading this from the /tg/ thread after ignoring it for so long. What wonderful art it has, the big panels really draw you in when they do the large set pieces, just fantasic. A a very nice story too, I wouldn't say it breaks any new ground, but what it does it does really well.

For real the characters do have motivation. Coco talks about her mom all the time, shes dazzled by magic because she loves it so much but she never forgets why she is learning it. Tetia wants to use her magic to make a mark on the word, worst girl Agete strives to be come the best due to her background, and we are just learning what Riche's deal is.
The most plain is probably Tetia, but she wants to travel the world and do everything she can for people so its not like its not noble.

As you can see, aside from the MC, everyone has very vague motivations.

The mangaka has an uncommon process of focusing and heavily developing (seemingly) minor side-characters, such as Silver-eyes laddo and now this loser kid in the 2nd exam. I would be annoyed at this, but she's thus far managed to seamlessly blend this fixation on tertiary characters into simultaneous further development of the leading ladies while hinting at future plot to come with them. It's good and it needs to be kept up. Helps sell the worldbuilding.

Magic being purely scientific takes a lot of the fun out of it, the characters range from incoherent to cliche, and I'm not even sure the brimhats even qualify for antagonists since they have zero coherent motivation or seemingly even a thread of logic to their actions beyond random dickishness.
Don't even get me started on how massively fucking stupid the forbidden magic shit and everything associated with it is. I could write an entire goddamn novel on that alone.
