As a way to give people who did visit this place a topic to talk about I propose a thread about the anime/manga we're currently watching/reading. Also, I'd like to add some banners so if you'd like to contribute some I'd be happy to use them.

I myself am currently watching Hanayamata.

I usually hate watching currently airing anime because it's hard to wait a week for the next episode but I enjoyed konosuba so much I made and exception for konosuba 2 and I'm not disappointed. It's one of the few anime that make me actually laugh.

Also: I thought about my beautiful harem time at the start of my weeb career with korewa zombie desuka, haganai and jitsu wa so someone recommended me trinity seven. That's what I'm watching right now but I hate it and I think I'm going to drop it. The MC is just too boring and generic. Maybe you have a recommendation.

>I usually hate watching currently airing anime because it's hard to wait a week for the next episode

I have the same issue, while I did love the hell out of KonoSuba I won't be making an exception for it and will just patiently wait for it to be done while watching some stuff from previous seasons. I heard DEEN fucked up the animation though, the OP did kind of look off compared to the one from the first season…

Does Currently reading apply, I wonder?

I went ahead and bought the first three books of Overlord on a whim and I must say, it's a really good read, I only just finished the first book today and I already feel the purchase for all three made it worth it for that one alone.

Aside from that, I'm waiting for the light novel of KonoSuba to be translated.

As for watching, I've dabbled in the cartoon version of Overlord, and it's really good too, but naturally the book is better. I'm also bidding my time to watch some Youjo Senki, since I find myself too busy funposting to be able watch cartoons.

How much money do I have to pay for a complete set of the average light novel? I've watched a lot of series that never went beyond season 1 or 2 but got a conclusion in the light novel which pissed me off a lot.

I didn't really like Overlord (the show) that much, everything except the first 1 or 2 episodes felt kind of rushed, perhaps it could've been better if the show had more episodes (like 24) and thus could have done more worldbuilding and give the characters more depth, there were a bunch of maids for example that didn't even get any dialogue if I remember correctly.

I did like the opening though.

My apologies, but I wouldn't know how much a complete set would cost. However, those three books alone set me back nearly fifty USD, I suppose worth is down to the individual, though.

>>60

I've only watched the first two episodes of the cartoon and could only describe the experience as disappointing. Though, the beginning of the novel is what really made me feel as though it was worth the asking price. Momonga went into further detail on the effort he and his guildmates had gone through to get to where they were.

I suppose I just found it easy to relate to, though. What with how they got so far, and parted ways as though they didn't mean anything to one another.

Well, I finished Hanayamata. I liked the visuals but it didn't do that well in the SOL department in my opinion. I've now started watching Ergo Proxy and Tamayura , I'm not even really sure what I think of Ergo Proxy so far as the episodes feel like they just kind of happen, at least it doesn't try too hard to be deep which was originally what I expected of it.

Tamayura is just a comfy SOL about a girl that's into photography, I'm currently watching the 4-episodes OVA but there's also a TV show with 13 episodes which I'll probably watch after this.

Just finished the five seasons of Natsume Yuujinchou that are currently out, the first two seasons were really fucking comfy but after that it started to focus on Natsume's relations with other people and his childhood which made it fade away more and more from the Iyashikei genre and started to make it feel more like a regular drama show with slice of life elements in it which I didn't really like. It was still a very enjoyable experience and I recommend it to anyone looking for a good slice of life show without moe stuff. Too bad that I watched it just before the sixth season starts airing, I'll have to wait serveral weeks to be able to watch more of it.

You're right about that one but I've been sick for serveral days now and feel like shit so I won't be able to enjoy it if I were to watch it right now. I'm also watching 2 other shows right now so I'd rather finish those first, I normally don't watch serveral shows at the same time.

Natsume Yuujinchou Go, watched the first season a while ago, Go is the fifth season, quite the comfy SOL. It's about a guy who can see Youkai and every episode he meets a new one and either has to fix a problem that youkai is causing or help the youkai with his own personal problem.

Danmachi, it doesn't really have any good qualities but I'm mostly watching it because I feel like shit like I already mentioned and just want to kill some time till I get better. I don't recommend this one but I do recommend Natsume Yuujinchou.

 No.262

>>261

I'm always cautious with super popular anime that attract a certain kind of fanbase so I also let some time pass until I watched Danmachi. It's just as you said, nothing special but a decent timekiller for boring sundays.

I'm not a huge fan of SoL but I'll give Natsume Yuuhinchou a try.

 No.263

Tried to force myself to watch Seiken no Blacksmith, the setting was kind of interesting as it was set in a independent trade city and the male MC was kind of interesting, he was a mature and calm guy stuck in the same show as a bunch of retards. However, in the end I just couldn't stand it, the female MC is a knight yet is also a moralfag who does not want to take any human life even if that means putting countless innocent people in danger. The show tries to make you feel pity for characters that you can't really bother to give a fuck about and characters sometimes make the most retarded descisions only to later admit that they don't really know why the fuck they did that in the first place.

I'm kind of done with anime that tries to have an actual plot for a while, I'm just going to watch more slice of life and shows from the previous season for the next couple of months.

After watching some seasonal shows I'm going to finish a few shows on my backlogs which mostly consists of SOL shows. The one I'm currently watching is Softenni, a slice of life show that is about a bunch of girls that are into a soft tennis club like the title suggests. The character interaction and comedy kind of reminds me Sabagebu, a show which I watched a few months ago.

Currently watching Urara Meirochou, last show of the previous season that I wanted to watch. Before this one I watched Kemono Friends.

To me this is definitely the most enjoyable show that aired during the spring season, it feels like Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu Ka but in a Japanese setting. I'm glad I found another light-hearted SOL like that one. I'm not sure how popular this was in Japan but it would be great if this could get a second season someday.

Just got done rewatching KonoSuba's first season and currently watching the second one. What the hell is wrong with Kuzu no Honkai?

I have to admit that I did not like it as much as I expected prior to watching it since I had high extremely expectations from it. Nonetheless, it was an interesting show, I enjoyed the episodes where it was just one person and Ginko talking to each other about a mushi that was causing trouble the most. I didn't really like how they tried really hard to give Ginko a backstory, in my opinion it would've been better if that was just left to the imigination to the viewer. Maybe they could've given little hints about it yet kept most of it mystery like they did with Spike's past in Cowboy Bebop.

I'm glad I finally got around watching it and I'll probably watch all the specials and sequels in a few weeks.

Watched Kill la Kill after reading a lot of positive things about it for ~3 years.

I started to dislike the story a bit when the arc about the alien clothes started, I honestly would've preferred if it had just been about the MC fighting a club leader every episode in a "monster of the week" kind of style until she was strong enough to beat the student council but I understand that was not meant to be since they actually had to explain what the deal with Matoi's uniform and her dad was.

I understand why people said Trigger would save anime with this when it was still airing because even if you didn't enjoy it, you have to admit that the amount of effort put into the show was much more than any of what went in most shows that aired in the last 5 years or so.

The only aspect of the show that truly bothered me was Mako, she kind reminds me of Ed from Cowboy Bebop, she's supposed to be a comic relief character but her personality just doesn't fit the atmosphere and personality of the other characters. The fact that she just randomly jumped into huge battles in which she should have been killed to do her "lolz so randumz" act pissed me off quite a lot.

Visually the show was great and I enjoyed the action scenes but the story and characters could've been better.

"Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasuka? Isogashii desuka? Sukutte Moratte Ii desuka?"

I enjoy this animu a lot. The MC isn't a complete generic 15 yo faggot without any personality and the main girl is cute, very cute if I may say so.

The plot seems to be okay as well. I just hope the ending is satisfactory and not a shitty cliffhanger leading to a second season that might never happen.

Wasn't your show the one filled with humanoid animals? It might have been a different one from spring.

Eromanga-sensei only made me breath slightly harder through my nose during the part where some girl said "dicks" but that's it, the only thing the show had going for it was the cute loli but they ruined their chances by cashing off her by constantly putting the faggy light novel MC on screen as if anyone actually cared about him. I don't know if you watch Digibro's stuff but he did a podcast on his second channel where he would talk about every episode of the show after watching it and it's much more enjoyable than the show itself.

I can understand that, most youtubers in general are cancerous. I do recommend demotiolion D or "demo" as he is better known. He hasn't uploaded anything in over a year but his videos are pure gold and the kind of thing that you can watch a second time and still enjoy as much as the first.

That's what I define as furfaggotry. I just don't watch anything with that kind of shit in it.

I'll think about it but I haven't really been interested in seasonal shows lately anyway, I've mostly been watching pre-2010 shows like the Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei series and am planning on just watching everything made by Shaft that I haven't seen yet after it.

Anime seems to be getting more cancerous every new season ever since I started paying attention to seasonal shows.

The only thing I was somewhat interested in was the second season of Owarimonogatari but I never watched the first season so I'm probably going to put that off for a while. I might watch the new season of New Game but that isn't really something I'm excited for and I'll probably save it for when I need something relaxing after a bad day.

The only thing I watched from the previous season was the second season of Uchouten Kazoku which was actually really fucking good and better than its first season but aside from that everything this year has been generic bullshit. I'm still not over the fact that Eromanga-Sensei actually became one of the most popular shows so far.

I'm kind of suprised that I've never seen anyone talk about it online before, it's really fucking good so far. It kind of feels like a mix of Haruhi and Kill la Kill with slice of life elements added to it. I'm glad I picked it up.

Oh I forgot to add that the manga the show was based on was written by Nisio Isin, the original creator of the Monogatari series and Katanagatari which is especially noticeable when they introduces the main antagonists of the show. Shigurui: Quite disturbing at times but interesting to see a show that portrays Edo-period Japan in a much more realistic and darker light. I feel like the parts with the demented teacher were just overdoing it though and were inserted more for shock value than anything else. Really nice art, came out in 2007 but looks better than any of the shit that came out this year.

Mononoke: A new favourite of mine, mostly because of the artsyle. Mushishi-esque show where a mysterious guy wanders around and deals with issues caused by mythological creatures. Very similar to the Monogatari series in that the stories are straightforward and the unique visuals kind of carry the show and try to deliver a deeper message, also in how the creatures are mostly just corrupted versions of people's thoughts and feelings.

I've been trying to watch Owarimonogatari, both the first and second season but I had to drop both, worst installments of the series. I guess I've just lost too much interest in the characters to give a shit about the slow pace the plot moves on but I don't feel like rewatching all the previous seasons just so I might enjoy this.

I also finished Nichijou recently, I had dropped it 2 years ago but decided to give it another chance. I definitely enjoyed it much more this time, I still think the comedic scenes are horribly unfunny but the slice of life aspects of the show are nice.

The only thing in the show that made me laugh was the part of this scene where the guy starts dancing because it was just unexpected. Most of the other scenes that attempt to be funny can be summarised with "they make le funny faces while something random happens" which is probably why the retards on 4chan love it so much.

>>1142

That's the only thing of the current season aside from Mahoujin Guruguru that I am interested in watching, the plot doesn't sound that interesting and I feel like I'm going to hate the characters from what I know about them so far but the screenshots I've seen of it definitely look nice.

Mawaru Penguindrum: Dropped after 10 episodes, by the same director as Yuri Kuma Ashi which I recently watched and they're quite similar in style. Both shows were shallow and while they did have nice visuals the characters were fucking annoying and they mostly rely on not telling the viewer important chunks of information to tell the story. This means that the start of the shows were confusing as fuck and when you finally get the hang of what was going on this whole time you realise that it really wasn't as interesting as the show was trying to be.

Koufuku Graffiti: Cute girls eating tasty food. It's a slice of show so nothing much happens of course but it's less fun to watch than other cgdgt shows because the characters aren't that interesting and the main focus is them cooking and eating food and not really on them having fun and being comfy. The show was made by Shaft and because of that has the same visuals as some of their other shows but I think their artsyle doesn't really go well with slice of life.

I've been watching Anyamal Tantei Kiruminzoo for the last few days, a 50 episodes long "magical girl" show for kids. They're technically not really magical girls since there is no magic involved but they can transform and have superpowers (kind of).

It's about a group of children who solve problems related to animals by using a machine that lets them transform into animal-human hybrids. There is also some kind of evil organisation that play the antagonists in some of the episodes but the main characters are not really aware of their intentions.

It's quite enjoyable if you don't mind the fact that it's written for children, the OP and ED sound kind of shit though since they are Thai instead of Japanese, I thought it was Chinese at first.

Every single one of them is the same, it's not really a comedy show because none of the jokse are funny ("oh no he saw my pantsu, let's slap him without consequences!") and the "romance" is postponed so much that by the end of the average 12-episodes harem show the MC might have not even chosen the girl he likes the most let alone kiss her or confess his love to her.

Combine that with the fact that the MC is always a fucking loser that girls should not like and often lives alone ("my parents are on a business trip") so horny mindless teenagers can self-insert as him. And if it's a LN adaption it will often pretend to be a parody of other romcoms but in the end will just be the exact same shit.

I could see how it could make you happy if it was something like Clannad where the characters were in an actual relationship and they had a happy life together but most romcoms are just about a bunch of teenagers who all act like retards and there is no real romance, just a bunch of teasing that goes on for the entire show with maybe a happy ending after serveral seasons.

Of course, most romcoms don't get serveral seasons since no one cares enough about that crap to pay money for it. It's all the same shit, it's just jokes about panties, a bunch of token trope girls like the childhood friend and big-breasted nice girl who fall for a slob with no personality at all. The only good romcom was School Days because the fucked up ending came out of nowhere.

I'm watching Gankutsuou now, seen half of the episodes so far.

The show was based on the 19th-century French novel The Count of Monte-Cristo, which was about a man who got sent to prison for 10 years because his jealous friends betrayed him and accused him of being a spy for England, after serving his punishment he tries to get his revenge on them. The novel was in turn based on a real person: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_Picaud

Because the show wouldn't be that interesting for people who do know the novel the creators decided to change the setting to a sci-fi world where intergalactic wars are a common thing. Another aspect of the show that was added to make it more interesting were the trippy visuals, they remind me a lot of Mononoke. Pretty much everything from people's skin to clothes has its own unnatural, brightly colored pattern.

One of the best things about the show is that almost every episode ends with a cliffhanger after which the epic ED starts playing which fits the tone perfectly (video related).

I have never read the novel myself so I'm curious to where the plot is gonna go, I do know that he succeeds in killing the three guys in the end.
