Yes, I agree with this sentiment. Despite the fact that Kite is the closest thing Gon has to a father figure, we weren't really given enough reason to give a shit about him.
Which makes Gon's motivation very flimsy and weak, and it's why I don't really like his part very much. Though the scene when he broke down in front of Pitou was pretty great.
It shows how childish and immature Gon's way of thinking is; he is unable to accept that an 'evil' and merciless person like Pitou is capable of doing acts of kindess and compassion.
It also shows how hypocritical Gon has become, with him willing to kill someone who has nothing to do with him without a care [ Pic 1 related ].

It's false because Killua had been upset ever since he followed Kite's orders and saved Gon from Pitou. His situation is complicated because of several reasons :
- he felt guilty for knocking out Gon and leaving Kite to die
- he wants to fight alongside Gon, but he's afraid he might leave Gon to die too because of his cowardice
- once he overcame his cowardice, he was prepared to die for Gon… just to discover that Gon doesn't really give a crap about his willingness to die
- in the end, he was upset because he couldn't do anything to save Gon; which means his debt to Gon was never repaid

They are pretty minor characters, but they do have a lot to add to the story, whether you like it or not.
Ikalgo vs Welfin helps Welfin confront Meruem and allows Meruem to regain his memories. Leol and Cheetu contribute too, although they don't affect the story much.
Interestingly enough, you don't seem to be mentioning the Royal Guards, Welfin, Knuckle, or Netero.
