Usually letter dice. If it's a fantasy show they use letter dice with random german words on them.

I'm pretty sure "Shingeki no Kyojin" makes sense in Japanese, but the mangaka decided to translate the title himself for some reason, despite not having a firm grasp of English. Then, since he made his incorrectly translated title part of the logo, it was too late for actual translators to change it once they got their hands on it.

Same thing happened with Gakkou Gurashi/School Live, which should more accurately be "School Living" or "School Life" or something like that. I don't know why anyone ever thought it was a good idea.

Shingeki no Kyojin literally translates to "Advancing Giant." Fun fact: it has been officially licensed in Finland as "Titaanien Sota" which translates to English as "War of the Titans."

The average Japs doesn't seem to understand their extremely basic understanding of the English language they learned back in HS is not nearly good enough for doing anything but saying standard lines like "hello" and "thank you". I don't think it's a pride thing or anything, they are just not even aware of it.

Remember, they use english words all the fucking time in their language. But they're also completely unaware that the words basically have a completely separate definition in Japan because they made up their own shit, or it's a word that has it's pronunciation fucked up beyond belief into a different word.
