Jump's shonen pretty much follow a formula. There are other shonen magazines that differ from Jump in story, shonen such as FMA, Ancient Magus Bride and Mitsuboshi Colors.

If you want a shonen that's a bit of a masterpiece, Ancient Magus Bride comes to mind. It's Shonen from the Monthly Comic Garden, not Jump. Check out shonen from other shonen magazines and compare them to Jump, the difference is night and day.

The ending is the problem. I'm unsure of how you'd write "having multiple heart-attacks at the age of 30 in your mothers basement, only being discovered three weeks later as your mom started to wonder why you weren't giving her any pissbottles to clean as usual" into a heartwarming conclusion.

Most people base what they think is shonen is because of Jump. Check out other shonen magazines, you'd fine interesting shonen manga with a different set of story telling and tropes not found in Jump. Totsukuni no Shoujo is a more artsy shonen.

On top of power levels and tournament arcs. Death Note is one of the few shonen in Jump to not play to these tropes.
