What are your least favorite trends in anime, past and present? What trends do you think are going to take off in the future?

I hated the pussy MC trend. Sure, characters like that have always been around and never went away, but it seemed, to me at least, like there were a lot of especially beta MCs from around the late 90s to the early 2000s.

I find even if I don't like a certain trend/theme I usually end up liking at least one or two shows with it. For example I don't care for isekai but I've certainly enjoyed a few of them.

Beta MC from the 90's were especially obnoxious, and for a long time I blamed it on japan being sexualy awkward (in some respects at least) . But watching Urusei Yatsura on the stream was a real eye opener. Characters can be awkward without being entire pushovers.

I blame the harem genre for it. You can't have a bunch of girls throwing themselves on a guy and not have some excuse for him to just not pick one of them.

This is also a weird realization to come to, since i like rom-com harems in spite of it's detestable MCs.

There's more to it than that but can't think of the proper words to describe them atm

NTR sucks, but Franxx isn't NTR though, with the exception of Kokoro, all the other pairings were love triangles at most (well, it was just ichigo/hiro/02 to be honest).

But overall, I agree with everything else

I want more cynical asshole MCs. Ones that call bullshit on things, tell people to piss off with their terrible plot devices, and if forced to solve problems, do it in the wuickest and most efficient way available usually by shooting the problem. i want this guy to get a harem only to glare at all of them, ask what kind of a shitty joke is this, and slam the door in their faces,

I feel Mahou Shoujo Site (and other edgy anime) are a sign of stagnation already. We'll probably have a lot more coming, but I feel like we're already at half-life of that thrend

 No.26953

i wish more anime would kill of significant characters without bringing them back to life. not 24/7, but enough to make death actually matter in the anime and not be the equivalent of a brief vacation. the trend, as old as anime itself, of most shows just refusing to let someone stay.fucking.dead. is very aggrevating.

>>26894

>Yahari Ore no Seishun LoveCome wa Machigatte Iru. [not s2 though]

just call it oregairu, that's what it's usually called and is easier to lookup. and the LN is more in depth with his inner commentary, so i'd recommend that over the anime, altho both seasons of the anime are nonetheless entertaining.

That's pretty much exactly Trigun.

My least favorite trend is that in modern years, not much has come out in theaters or received major acclaim without being a "youths growing from drama, no dry eyes in the room" style thing. It sounds odd, but when you look at what's been popular on a major level, they're all depressing love stories or dysfunctional family works. I kind of miss when you could make a political thriller, a sci fi adventure, or just something totally nuts and sill have a budget and critical acclaim.

I guess I just want films with magic crystals and secret agents.

This may sound a bit meta but I absolutely despise how the animango industry is basically a giant popularity contest + insider circlejerk where popular authors are forced to continue pulling shit out of their ass to extend a series because it's massively popular with Japanese normalfags while gazillions of interesting concepts get the axe just because it doesn't attract normalfag interest. This actively dumbs down the writing in popular series that may have been somewhat decent originally, what with the editors forcing authors to maintain publication schedule forever. Even if authors have prepared story outlines for decades beforehand eventually at some point down the road the editors will want to change shit because of muh animoo, muh merchandise licensing etc. For a good example: Even Jojoshit has turned even shittier post-part 3. I know it's normalfag territory but parts 1-3 were at least decently enough written for a hack like Araki, while everything after part 3 were basically Araki running absolutely out of ideas but can't end his own work because he got too popular.

Except it's not. An alien species looking to out-math the inevitable exploits humanity's emotions to generate unfactorable energy. Byproduct essentially propels shitflinging humanity into a high modern society that's riddled with flaws but otherwise normal…then, the mother of all fuckups is birthed because one literal weak-hearted waif fell in love with the very first person who was kind to her and refused to let her go, despite many, many deaths. In the end the world is rewritten with a guaranteed Ragnarok in the wings because that same waif became a proverbial Satan in order to covet a one-sided love that will never be.

canon is canon, anon. But just to satisfy you:

An alien species looking to out-math the inevitable exploits humanity's emotions to generate unfactorable energy. Byproduct essentially propels shitflinging humanity into a high modern society that's riddled with flaws but otherwise normal…then in the conclusion absolutely nothing changes because a good-meaning but infinitely ignorant little girl decides she can't stand the suffering of a whole legion of little girls just like her, and takes it upon herself to rewrite the laws of casualty just to suck out their unfortunate demises while simultaneously excusing herself from the pool of physical existents. Meanwhile, wars still happen on the planet, famine and disease are still on the planet, the manipulative aliens are very much still on the planet, and one weak-hearted waif that basically fell in love with the very first person that was kind to her (the aforementioned ignorant girl) will now set the world into a potential apocalypse just to get that girl back.

Better?

Deres. They have become an excuse for writers to not come up with original chacacters and instead make one from an already existing template. The only show that did it well is Evangelion but that's partly because they were one of the first, if not the first to use such type of characters and both Rei and Asuka actually have a reason for the way they behave.

I generally hate all anime trends though because they end up being something that is overused to death for years and only really stops when people are bored of seeing the same shit over and over again after which the cycle starts anew with a different one.

The beta MC trend from >>26813 has never really ended sadly, most harem/romcom/adventure that have a young, male MC still make them behave like pussies. I remember being annoyed by them even at a young age so I find it hard to believe that any young boys can really relate to them. Especially since boys that watch anime tend to be lonely and recieve no social interaction from females so they'd probably want to self-insert as an alpha that gets laid all the time rather than what seems to be a literal faggot.

>>26813

I wish there would be a harem show where the MC is actually an alpha that is actually implied to have had sex with most of the female MCs. School Days doesn't count.

You got into anime in the late 2000's at the earliest if you think Eva was the first to do anything. Archetypes like tsundere existed WAY before Eva, and previous series did it infinitely better. A good example of this is Slayers. It predates Eva by 9 years, and has an MC that's a tsundere, but she's not the modern tsundere cunt who never shows the dere side and has no redeeming qualities like Asuka.

Those kind of boys would have problems self-inserting into alphas though.

Personally, it's much easier to self-insert into a beta that is too scared to even breath when in the proximity of a female and that is constantly angsty.

I find the standard anime MC reaction to females that seem to love him to be quite realistic.

 No.34414

>>34412

>Personally, it's much easier to self-insert into a beta that is too scared to even breath when in the proximity of a female and that is constantly angsty.

Most beta boys are angsty like that because they never recieve any positive attention from females thus not being able to relieve their sexual desire on a real woman. But let's say that a situation from a harem showsoccurs in real life; there's lots of these big-breasted girls that want to fuck the boy, I don't think he would be too scared to fuck them when he's finally given permission to statisfy his lust.

Say a model just throws herself at you out of the blue. Would you trust she's actually into you? Or would you suspect you're either imagining things or that she has some other purpose in it?
