It's the lazy way to do characterization of a villain. If you actually wanted to do a good job of it, you'd have to make the story about both, the hero and the villain. Give both of them roughly the same amount of screen time so you can fully develop the characters. And while you're at it, why not make an actually realistic depiction of good vs. evil for a change? Rather than having the embodiment of good and embodiment of evil face off, put the fight of good vs. evil inside of the characters as opposed to in between them. Because that's where it belongs. I can't think of a single anime or manga that does that properly. They all either do Jesus vs Super-Hitler or completely half-ass it and give the hero a dark side that never manifests in any meaningful way, so it may as well not even exist.

I will like to know that too. Almost every isekai I've read always ends up in a fantasy/medieval world. It's already tedious enough with video game world setting and leveling but to repeat same old tired fantasy setting gets stale. Madoka the absolute madwoman actually gets bitchslapped by her mom into attempted submission to no avail, just to let her go because she knows there is no point in trying to convince her otherwise. It's in fact one of the most criticised parts of the anime, because it doesn't seem very sensible to let your pubescent daughter out in the middle of the most violent hurricane Japan has experienced, what with stadiums blowing up with the virulence of several kilotons for no apparent reason, but considering most of the scenes where Madoka's mom appears are either symbolic or somewhat oniric, it was probably not trying to be realistic.

Hibiki is about as far from edgy as you can get, and it gave her some vulnerability both as a character and as a plot device as Gungnir ate away at her body and showed how selfless she was when she decided to help Miku knowing full well she was probably going to die doing it.

Japan knows older people can be retarded but it doesn't matter because there's more important dynamics in play when it comes to your elders. It's the same way if you're in a military unit, you can't have endless arguments over what to do , it's just a waste of time and effort. You need someone in charge who tells everyone what to do, even if they're wrong some of the time you still have to follow. Nothing else works as well and so it's how it has to be done.
