Every. Fucking. Time. Why does it always have to circle back to this?
Nothing’s gonna happen. The entirety of Netflix doesn't even make half of what the anime industry does. What it did was a war declaration to the Japanese production companies; they will take measures against it. Not because they fear Western influence, but because Netflix attempts to push them out of their industry.
It's true that there are risks (i.e., said production companies imitating Netflix to get into the Western market). But I see this as a small issue, since most anime are based on a source material.
Netflix and CR toss money at a few production committees here and there. They tossed some shekels at season 50 of fucking Teekyuu and a couple other random shows. The worst damage they can possibly do is fund a few shows that flop in Japan to appease their faggot subscribers. They don't make nearly enough money to fuck with the industry on a grand scale, nor would they be willing to spend that much in the first place. Moreover, committees for each anime are constructed separately, but with so many foreign capital influx to Japanese anime production market in recent years including CR, Netflix, and the mass of Chinese capitals, it’s been reported that they are having a hard time to even maintain a simple majority of Japanese capital in some production committee. Overall, they're making more shows just to have a place for these foreign capitals to invest in without letting them take over and directly control some of the production committee.
