I thought there was hinting or foreshadowing earlier in the story about how people who die in the Abyss have their souls descend into the bottom of it to be reborn. It was mentioned as some mythology that delvers hold to, I think. So even if Mitty had a true death due to Reg's light, it doesn't feel like an ass pull that her soul was hanging around and was put into a body on level 6.

I'm a bit confused about the timeline of Mitty appearing with Belafu. Is it confirmed that Bondrewd made that trade with Belafu before the protagonists even met Nanachi and Mitty? Belafu said that Bondrewd brought Mitty down in one of his many visits, but didn't say which visit it was. I have a nagging feeling that the trade might have happened after Reg incinerated Mitty, the reasoning for this being:
>Bondrewd was waiting for Mitty's lamp to go out, so he knows the moment of her death
>Delver worship of the Abyss has been brought up in the story, including the Delver notion that what comes from the Abyss, returns to the Abyss
>Bondrewd's Sparagmos and Reg's Incinerator are implied (if I remember correctly) to work by similar principles, as both are capable of harming/killing the immortal Mitty, and one or the other weapon is referred to as the 'origin-guiding light' so I assume Reg's has that aspect to it
Putting these things together, I think that when Reg killed Mitty, this was the origin-guiding light setting Mitty's Abyss Blessing free to return to where it originated, which is the bottom of the Abyss (or at least level six). Then Bondrewd, knowing that the time was right, went down to see Belafu to trade away Mitty's immortal soul which he was able to do because of the soul and/or the Blessing returning there. This avoids the two-Mitties-at-once weirdness that is implied by Bondrewd making that trade long in the past. A problem with the idea that I can see is that Mitty was a child from the surface, so why should her soul go into the Abyss when she is killed? I think that the Blessing alone was what returned.

I really wish this would stop being nonsensical creatures with nonsensical names doing nonsensical actions while they say nonsensical things (how the fuck did Riko learn to speak their language this quickly anyway?). I guess it might be a little better in the original print and not inferior scans, but everything that has happened for several chapters is just fleshy blobs with tentacles taking unclear actions. It doesn't help that even when they speak a real language, these creatures seem to be unable to say anything with a clear meaning. The scanlations don't help of course since it's one more step away from what the author wrote and thus harder to understand the true meaning. A whole bunch of fleshy blobs with tentacles were introduced that I don't give the slightest shit about, and they all seem to not care much about being melted or killing others for their "value", giving me even less reason to care about them. Actually, the value thing makes no sense anyway. The jellyfish thing melts creatures to death and that gives it value? How? Even if we assume that it grows equally as much as it melts, which doesn't seem to be the case, having more jellyfish slime doesn't make up for all the creatures and objects it's melted. Nothing in this place makes sense and almost none of the many, many characters it introduced had anything to do with the story. And then Riko frees some imprisoned fleshy tentacle blob woman without a care. And as an extra "fuck you" to the reader to establish that the author just wants to make people unhappy, Riko goes and cuts her hair because fuck you if you like girls with long hair, here comes character development.
I don't care about these fleshy blobs with tentacles, I don't care about these contrived situations that only happen in order to set up more suffering ("there's another Mitty here, except it's fake, and Nanachi trades herself for it because", really?) and I don't care about the village in the slightest. So maybe using themselves as bait increases the city's value because if you go in and harm them the city takes from you? It still leaves much open, but It's the best I can make of it for now.

Don’t really have much to say that hasn’t been said here already. One of the reasons I fell in love with the manga is because of how much effort Tsukushi puts into making every detail about the world make sense, but it ends up being a downside in the villiage arc where most of it is just shit we don’t care about. I think the issue is that he’s so focused on making sure every detail of his world is covered that he’s getting stuck on this arc and can’t focus on the bigger picture (moving the plot forward).
Arc will be over in one or two more chapters anyways so no need to worry. Have some Nanaregu in the meantime
