Hell, at least you can pay a few bucks for a patreon artist or two who have direct incentive to put out regular content with some of them giving out monthly commissions for as little as a contribution of $15-25 a month. Cushy Pen comes off as a rip off. Especially since you don't get access to all their content at once.

This is why i find patreon to be a good service. Many patreons have a monthly commission as one of their rewards. Some even go as low as a dollar and they can be pretty good. Heck some will even cancel pay cycles if they feel their not putting out enough the current month.

First of all, you misread his post. He said "or", but you read it as "and".
Besides that, "custom art" could include rough sketches which take just a few minutes to draw. Assuming the artist's time is worth $20 per hour, $5 is quite reasonable for anything taking less than 15 minutes.
Sketchman used to offer monthly sketches at the $5 tier, but that has now been raised to $10. His art is also far better than anything on Cushypen.
