I watched Shakugan no Shana's first season a few months ago. In the span of this week I binge watched Shakugan no Shana's second season. What happened was that I had food poisoning or gastro or something like that on Tuesday, so I couldn't do much that day other than sit and watch the first ten episodes. I got so into it that I'd watch three or four a day after that.
I find this show really enjoyable and easy to binge watch. The setting of the story has an ever-present threat to the protagonists of being hunted down by a group stronger and more organised than them, but they manage to find many comfortable slice of life moments with cute girls regardless (My favourite is the genki girl Ogata). It reminds me of the Western web serial Mother of Learning, which also hooked me into binge-reading it. Shana was a lot more tsun in the first season but she had gotten it out of her system by the time of the second season so it was lovely to see her alternate between flustered and dere, and Yoshida was a good competitor for her. Just going by what I've seen so far, Yoshida has a pretty good chance. She resembles Sakai's mother physically and in traits such as being a great cook and sticking by the man she loves in difficult situations. There's no particular reason to believe from the series that Sakai is any sort of mothercon, I'm just going off the notion of people being attracted to those who resemble their opposite-sex parent.
While watching it I always felt that what I knew about the motivations of the antagonists wasn't enough to carry the story, and I remember feeling that way while watching the first season too. Crimson denizens must feed on the power of existence of regular humans, and that just makes the majority of them act like irredeemable bad guys with nothing emotionally compelling about them. They appear, they talk big and have a chuuni LARP, there's a fight scene, and they die. Sakai holds a treasure that's capable of supplying unlimited power when used in conjunction with the fountain from the end of the first season, so it seems like the two sides should be able to negotiate a peaceful solution that leaves both better off.

>Please note that this is likely to change during the time of a transition.
I understand the necessity of not having a single point of failure and the fact that it's a lot better to have your imageboard funded by dumb shit sold to qboomers instead of having to pay for it yourself. However, I am not looking forward to the transition away from smugloli.
