Can't believe how much fun this show is. The girls and their designs are simple and sexy, the story complements the edutainment well, and it really pumps you up.

First of all they are completely different in terms of motions. No human will be able to squat as much as he deadlifts. Secondly if you are plateauing then there could be an issue with the fact that you simply don't rest enough or eating improperly. I highly recommend you give this book a look, specifically the recovery section.

Train smart, and Onegai muscle.

As much as I enjoy this manga, I know posting about it is just asking to be met with /fit/ autism so I'll just continue to read the manga by my lonesome.

All I'll say is that the anime cranks the Kengan Asura references to eleven, changing them from small background easter eggs to full-blown center stage gags (Ozu Toshio was just mentioned as the author of the guide in the manga, in the anime he gives a full-on performance). I'm pretty okay with it.

Remember to work out both parts of your biceps and to not use momentum while doing curls, otherwise you will lose a lot of gains and it will put focus on other parts of your body as well, so the little gains you do get aren't all to your biceps.

It's not that I'm too poor to afford a power rack (or even the space to put one), it's that I'm putting my life on the line for those extra pounds or reps. If you haven't thrown your back out at the bottom of a squat and still racked the bar, you're never gonna make it.

Do not do that, that is wasting your workouts. You build muscle by tearing it apart so it can regrow stronger. If the anime is as accurate as the manga, it should at least be partially met with /fit/ autism. Improper form means potential for harm, and no mangaka should be trying to give advice unless he is damn well certain of what he's saying.

I don't know if the show is a 1:1 of the fitness advice in the mango, but it's good for the most part. There are some things that are either debatable ("machines are totally great, we promise!") or outright incorrect ("this is how you overhead press!") in the show.

The /fit/izens among us have gone over this so many times it's just tiring to repeat. Long story short, machines are to free weight dumbbell and barbell training as riding a three wheeled moped is to biking the Tour de France. They don't allow you to recruit stabilizers, they train certain muscles in isolation which is utterly useless unless you're going for size, and they partly assist you with the weight so that you cannot honestly claim that X weight done on a machine is actually how much weight you could genuinely move with that muscle group, freeform.

There's a lot more to be said about it but just google for it.

Yes anon, machines are bullshit. That being said, if you happen to be an expert on the subject, I'll happily listen to your objection. >they train certain muscles in isolation which is utterly useless unless you're going for size

Machines are a supplement to free weights and are often used to target your weaknesses in different lifts. There are also only so many different ways you can pick up a barbell and put it back down for a specific muscle group. Machines can give a variety to a workout which, at the very least, helps with the mental strain of doing this for years. Not only that but most people don't approach lifting as a sport itself but rather for aesthetics or to help them in the actual sport they play.

>you cannot honestly claim that X weight done on a machine is actually how much weight you could genuinely move with that muscle group, freeform

No one is claiming otherwise, not even the manga. Who fucking cares anyways?

>Machines are a supplement to free weights and are often used to target your weaknesses in different lifts.

Replace "machines" with "isolations" and you're correct. In instances where you cannot isolate a muscle without a machine (like the hamstring exercise they showed in this episode) this is already true. You should not be using a smith machine to do benchpress, for example, or the "pec machine" they showed Akemi using (you do flyes or cables). And again, newfags shouldn't be worrying about machines or isolations, unless it's curls.

>Machines can give a variety to a workout

At an advanced lifting stage you should be varying your workout regardless thanks to diminishing returns.

>but rather for aesthetics

Hence why I said "unless you're going for size," because in that case, isolate away. Unless you're a newfag, in which case, you need to work for half a year building strength before focusing on a size based program.

Machines have specific uses for specific circumstances of which do not apply to 90% of the people in the gym. That's why "don't use machines" isn't some holy sacrament thou shalt never blaspheme, but rather a general rule to give to new lifters. Too much hassle to explain to them why they shouldn't bother and in what circumstances it makes sense for them to use them. The biggest concern is someone using ONLY machines, and not doing any freeweights other than bench and curls.

It's even okay for beginners. For example, when I started, there were some muscles that I had basically never learned to use in certain motions so when I was doing my major lifts I would only have half the intended muscle groups working at a time. Isolations with the guidance of a friend helped me learn what I was missing.

There's a difference between a post-workout sauna to keep your heart rate up and relax as compared to a relaxing sauna at a hot spring or a bathing sauna. If you're using a relaxing/bathing sauna, having a few shots of vodka won't hurt you so long as you don't get dead drunk. Doing so after working out though is a serious risk.

No. Yes. I don't actually know the reason. It was chronic by the time I got to see a doctor about it. Still only semi-treated. I'm basically disabled in a lot of ways, I just pretend really well that I'm not and play off inability as laziness.

>Try doing a squat without using your quads or glutes.

Funny you mention that because that's almost what I was doing. I went my whole life until I started weight lifting before realizing that you could use ass and hamstrings to do anything. I vaguely understood them to be muscles from basic biology, but it never occurred to me that the back part of the upper leg could be used in any sort of movement from walking to lifting. They were basically non-muscles while my calves and quads did 100% of the leg work and were equally disproportioned.

In a similar sort of boat to this anon. I used to go cycling all the time, but unfortunately smashed my kneecap to bits which never healed properly, and now I can only sort of limp everywhere and cycling is right out. Since then I've ballooned and become quite fat. I cannot do squats or anything that requires me to bend my knees, is it worth lifting to try and lose weight or am I just sorta fucked?

That sounds like the kind of thing you talk to a physical therapist about. There is quite a bit of knee bending in weight lifting. If you really do it long enough while avoiding lifts that would be bad for you, you will probably end up with a retarded chicken leg looking body. Your best bet might be swimming.

Not that anon, but it's more than worth it to at least enhance your upper-body so you can get some definition and look good in well-fitting clothing. If you're fat and begin lifting, but can't do too much cutting because of your injury, then you could strive to achieve bear mode and get respect from everyone who even looks at your formidable girth that's backed with real power.

Dumbbell is more detailed on the specifics of weight training, reps, and provides useful information. I believe Anitore focused more on body weight training with the goal or just getting viewers to learn the motions.

That said all of the Dumbbell girls look comparatively bad and the giant muscular men make it obvious the show is only for open or closet gay /fit/ posters. Anitore has an objectively more attractive female cast with no men in sight. The cast are all closely relate-able little girls making it more suited to /a/.
