Just went to familymart and bought this (130 yen) to show you what a sausage bread is.
It's essentially the super sweet dinner rolls you get here in Japan (not like the wheaty, savoury bread you get in Aus and elsewhere) with some mystery meat sausage that somehow lasts several days under room temperature. The sauce is somehow fused into the bread and seemingly dehydrated.
Second pic shows all the ingredients to keep it shelf stable for 3 days+.

I had it for breakfast. It seems like the sausage (chorizo) is baked into the bread. On the whole it wasn't too bad, but I really don't want to think about what's inside that sausage nor the sauces. Spic here. Chorizo is a tube of spicy sausage. It can be soft and a bit mushy so you can cook it with egg or beans, or smoked so the meat is harder. That isn't chorizo.

It's common for newfags. Your muscles are so weak and unused that it's very little effort to push them to their maximum limit (you keep doing sets to failure, which you shouldn't be doing anyway) without getting really exhausted or tired. But then the DOMS hits you like a truck the next day or day after.
It will go away and won't ever return so long as you make certain to lift regularly, at least the standard 3x a week for an hour (a bit less for a noob). If you're ever going to work out muscles you haven't worked for a long time, keep the exercise light. You'll still get some DOMS even though the workout felt like super easy shit, but that's why new lifters get killer DOMS after the first workout or two. Then the next time you work that muscle group you can do whatever.

Now that I'm going through the first episode I'm a little disappointed I haven't seen maximum /fit/ autism about form here yet so I suppose I'll dump mine.
>bench press
I was hoping they'd point out all the important bits of form on this one because too many people assume there's nothing to it, and wind up fucking up their rotator cuffs. They did a good job but missed the single most important part, which is to lower the bar almost to your chest (they didn't do that) and to keep your arms at a 45 degree angle. Too many beginners flare their elbows/arms out and have their arms at a 70-80 degree angle which fucks up their shoulders later on. That's the single biggest thing about the bench and they missed it. At least they got scapular retraction...go fucking figure.
>squats
There's like thirty billion different things to mention about form with squats and I won't bother. But other anons have mentioned that in this episode the squats depicted were wrong because 1) you're not trying to get parallel to the floor, you need to go a bit below that, otherwise the bones of your upper leg are not actually parallel to the ground, and 2) her feet were way too far in front, not underneath her. She would have fallen backwards on try 1. They have more tips for squat form after the ED, but she still has her feet way too far out.
>other stuff
They mentioned eating being the most important part of building muscle, so that was good. Hopefully they mention soon that you can't spot-reduce fat. They mentioned new lifters getting super sore because they overdo it on day 1, so that's right. They keep showing all these muscular guys as bodybuilders rather than a more realistic portrayal; that kind of huge muscle + low BFP combo is usually only done with gear and/or test. They don't really portray natty lifters at all, it's either "normal dude" or "roided gorilla." They mentioned not to skip leg day, too, so big props for that. Even calling out chickenmode was a great plus.
All in all, if this ep was any indication, I expect there to be some inaccuracies and omissions, but it clearly shows they're at least trying to get their facts right, the effort is there.

I don't expect it to be, pretty much nothing made in the past decade is really an X autism series (maybe the one about Go, though). I agree it's great for a starting motivation, I just hope that the people whom it motivates take the common sense tack that they should probably do some background research and not just charge blindly into the gym.
Picking it apart is still an entertaining effort though, it's never bad to refresh the proper aspects of form.

The most common mistake for beginners is that they go too hard and the pain drives them away. Which is perfectly logical. Get a cheap heartrate monitor instead and focus on keeping your BPM around 150/160. What this does is it helps you keep a good pace so that you can workout the next day as well. Don't let your body become your prison.

Deadlifts use most of the muscles in your body so yes they will definitely be exhausting since you probably haven't used everything involved. Though it's normal to wait 3 - 5 minutes between sets. For a lot of people, once they start getting into higher weights a single set will suck up so much oxygen from their body that their vision will begin to blacken. I'm convinced years of deadlifting causes legitimate brain damage, but they are fun so it doesn't matter.

>Are deadlifts supposed to be so exhausting?
Yes. They should only be done at the end of your workout, so it doesn't interfere with your other lifts, and you should only do a single set of 5 reps. If you're doing more than 1x5, your weight is too light. They are meant to be explosive and heavy, doing too many is a bad idea, especially for beginners. Your form will begin to suffer, and if you fail to keep your back straight (the single most important part), you'll be getting accustomed to that, and when you go to increase weight and then allow your back to round like that, you'll be sent to snap city. Do not. fucking. do that. To put that in perspective, general strength training for your first 4-6 months will involve 3 sets of 5 reps for all exercises involving a barbell.
> I just did 10 with 40 pounds
...the fuck? Be real with me anon are you a chick? Or severely overweight? Coming off a sedentary lifestyle, I would begin my very first set of deads with 185 lbs, maybe 165 depending how I'm feeling. Forty pounds? That's the deadlift equivalent of doing bicep curls with three pound weights. No wait, you can't do deads of 40 pounds. The bar itself is 20kg/45 lbs. You mean 40 on each side? So a total of 125? Because ten of those in a row I could see wiping you out as a newfag.
A single set of 5 reps. No exceptions.

Your other compound lifts. Beginners don't need to worry about isolation for quite a while, they shouldn't bother. Isolation is for when you have your strength foundation already established, there's a reason you never see isolation movements included in serious lifting programs for beginners (or intermediates either for the most part). The only things they should be doing are the main compounds and then some auxiliary exercises, like pushups, pullups, chinups, etc. etc. The one exception is curls, and that's fine because your biceps have next to nothing to do with deadlifts. You need to learn to walk before you can run, and that's the deal with isolations.

FYI the piss strips are a waste of money.
There are multiple types of ketones, and those strips only test for 1 type. Not only that, but the body becomes more efficient as time goes on, only producing the ketones that you need, rather than creating a vast excess, so eventually those strips may deceptively not show anything.
Just stay under the carb limit and you'll know you are in ketosis because you're still alive.
Also don't get too caught up in weight either. A cup of water weighs half a pound, and you should be drinking a lot of water (and electrolytes). If you track your weight multiple times a day, you'll find the line looks like zigzags slowly sloping down. Having your weight bounce up and down 2-5 pounds at a time is perfectly normal.
I was 225 last february 2018 and by september 2018 was 165. All I did was remove carbs and seed oils from my diet. Seems to have completely cured my lifelong depression too (which is actually just a sickness behavior in response to what is usually chronic inflammation, which is why pharmaceuticals don't fucking work or make things worse). Easiest damn thing I ever did.

I gotta say the OP and ED are among the best I've seen this year. Mainly the OP. The more I see it the better it is.
Though I am left wondering if "onegai muscle" is literally meant to be taken as "please muscle" or if there's some other context for that word that changes it a bit, or there isn't really a good direct translation. Looking up onegai, apparently "Onegai" comes from the verb "negau" which literally means "to pray to (something)" or "to wish for (something)." So "wishing for muscle" makes more sense if it's being used in this (more archaic? obscure?) way.

Remember kids, it's a marathon, not a sprint. Back when P90X was all the rage I saw so many chicks get mega hyped with a fitness bug, kill themselves with exercise for a couple months, and then quit entirely. Fitness is a habit and a lifestyle, progress made with many small steps over a very long distance. It's no big deal if you want to go and take it easy during your workout, so long as you actually work out. Just don't skip any workout days, don't knock yourself out pushing yourself super hard, and take it easy if you're a fatfag until you get into a groove.
Also keep in mind the majority of your calorie control is diet. Exercise helps, but diet is the main determination. If you're really fat, I wouldn't suggest running or squats yet.

It sucks but you should probably plan out your diet. Chicken, beans, oats, greens, cook your stuff in bulk, and make sure to eat before you're hungry. If you start feeling hungry at any point, you're doing it wrong. Don't do GOMAD though, it's simply too many kcal too fast and you put on more fat than you need to. Keep in mind it's far easier to hit your calorie goal for the day if you can maintain intake throughout the day, rather than all of your food being eaten in 2-3 sittings. Grazing gradually all day long is ideal, and will also prevent the "shit I'm tired" feeling after gorging yourself.
Unless by /fit/ secret you mean general advice about bulking, but I've repeated that shit so many times I'm not retyping it unless you haven't even begun reading the basics.

You can forcibly increase the size of your stomach by drinking extremely excessive amounts of water. Naturally if your stomach is bigger than it takes more food before you feel full.
There was a time I was drinking a minimum of a gallon daily and the amount of food I wanted to eat at each meal doubled. There were a few times where I drank so much in a day that I threw it up, which consistently happened around 2 gallons each time. I could feel my stomach being pressed apart which was probably what caused vommiting.
>you should not drink more than 27-33 ounces (0.8-1.0 liters) of water per hour, on average
Alternatively if you can decrease the size of your stomach by fasting and trying to get most of your water through foods during your occasional meals. Fasting is mostly a meme besides that unless you are specifically trying to avoid diabetes since it's biggest effects are on your insulin levels. Almost all of it's other noted positives happen to be exactly the same as just eating less.

Roasts, lasagna, full chickens/turkeys, casseroles, crockpot stuff, pressure cooker stuff, rice dishes, curry dishes, any sort of smoking recipe, preserves, drying, and anything intended for large families produce tons of food. If you are a wage slave and can't find time to make stuff like that then set aside one day a week where you make two or three things at once while watching anime during cook times. Throw anything you don't eat into tupperware containers and refrigerate and/or freeze it. If you don't have access to basic cookware then I guess you are fucked.

>lat pulldowns
I wouldn't bother doing these if I can do pullups. Lat pulldowns are for 1) if you're so weak you can't do pullups at your current strength:body mass ratio, or 2) you're so strong that pullups are nothing but you have no means to do weighted pullups currently. On the other hand, I have trained a couple 3DPD grills and case 1 usually applies so it's fine.

Pullups are tough, but the answer to your question is "it depends." Anyone of average bodyweight for their build or below should be able to do a few sets of several even coming off a sedentary lifestyle. Anyone particularly weak with little to no upper body development (like girls or super underweight men) probably can't do more than 1 or 2 at a time, if any. Nor can really fat people either, they simply weigh far too much for what muscles they have to handle it.
That being said, chinups and assisted pullups are acceptable stopgaps until you've developed the strength necessary to do a few sets of more than 3 or 4.
>Is the thing about golden protein time true?
Personally I can't answer that because I haven't dug into it in a long time, last time I checked was a few years ago and IIRC people were arguing about whether it was bullshit. You'd need to do some digging yourself to determine that unless another /fit/izen can definitively explain whether it's broscience or not. Did a light scrape across Lyle's blog by searching for "window," and found the following:
>I should mention that while beneficial, this is not as important as it was once thought. The idea that there is some magic post-workout “window” for eating that closes after some period of time turns out not to be completely accurate (5). At the same time a considerable amount of research shows that post-workout protein helps to improve adaptations; it will rarely hurt to consume at least some nutrients following resistance training.
>However, under certain conditions, it’s clear that post-workout nutrition may be relatively more important. One of these times is during fat loss dieting. Part of the reason that lean body mass (LBM) is lost is due to changes in hormones which negatively impact on skeletal muscle metabolism. Protein synthesis (building muscle) decreases and protein breakdown increase. And the combination of proper resistance training with post-workout protein effectively reverses this (6).

>I'm doing them wrong or something because it hurts my knees like crazy.
Proper squat form requires three dozen different things to be done right, otherwise all sorts of joints are going to be in pain (knees, wrists, hips rarely, etc.). If your knees hurt, dollars to donuts says the problem is that when you start coming up out of the hole, your knees are tracking inward, and putting a whole lot of undue stress on them from angles not meant to be. When you push up out of the squat, you should be holding your breath at the bottom/slowly releasing it on the way up, keeping your back straight and making sure you're "pushing your knees out."
Just start looking up some things and you'll see what I mean.

You don't need to drink protein shakes or take whey. They're supplementary, if you can obtain the protein requirements you need without them, don't bother using them. >>940010
The conventional /fit/ recommendation is a meme born from failure to convert numbers. The original methodology was 1-1.5 grams per kg of bodyweight. This somehow got misconstrued as "1 gram per pound of what would be your lean 7% bodyfat body mass" which somehow further got misconstrued into the shitty advice that shuts down your kidneys from eating a too protein rich diet known as "1g per 1lb body weight." If you go over it's fine, but your average person only needs roughly 50-100 grams of protein per day unless they're trying to compete at the professional level (in which case they aren't doing nearly enough steroids nor exercises).

Also keep in mind that your body can only process roughly 30-40 grams of protein in a given meal (4-6 hour period), so it's not worth it to eat an entire pound of meat in one sitting- your body shits out the excess protein or converts it into fat.

>The conventional /fit/ recommendation is a meme born from failure to convert numbers.
No it's not, son. And I'll throw some sources at you.
Wolfe and Tipton, 2004., arguably one of, if not the, main anchors for this recommendation. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14971434
Take its DOI here [ 10.1080/0264041031000140554 ] and plug that into SciHub to read the study.
Secondly, Lyle Macdonald just made a post about this a month ago, here: https://bodyrecomposition.com/nutrition/protein-requirements-muscle-growth.html/ . And when it comes to nutrition and biochem/biomechanics, I'm absolutely taking his word over yours. As he says himself about the study I just linked:
>Getting into recommendations, the paper points out that a daily protein intake of 2.5-3.0 g/kg (1.1-1.4 g/lb) for strength/power athletes is not harmful, may give small but important performance improvements over the long-term, and will more than cover any needs for protein synthesis (it’s conceivable but understudied that anabolic steroids could increase requirements even further). Any excess will simply be oxidized off in the first place; I’d note again that some researchers feel that the end products of AA oxidation may contribute to the overall anabolic drive in the body.
He continues:
<Assuming that it doesn’t prevent sufficient carbohydrate and fat intakes, that level of intake has no downsides and may have long-term benefits (many of which would not show up in short-term studies to begin with). Mind you, this is truly for high-level athletes and wouldn’t really apply for the general recreational trainee or what have you. In that situation, 2.2 g/kg or the standard 1 g/lb is likely to be more than sufficient. Why not give a lower value? Well in practice if the average person shoots for 1 g/lb they will probably fall short to begin with and end up lower than that. Give them 0.8 g/lb (1.6 g/kg) and they will end up even lower and potentially run into problems in terms of sub-optimal protein intakes.

> that shuts down your kidneys from eating a too protein rich diet known as
The first only happens when your kidneys are already fucked, at which point the list of things not to do becomes very large. The idea that it'll kill a healthy persons kidneys is incorrect.
>your body can only process roughly 30-40 grams of protein in a given meal (4-6 hour period)
As is, this is mistaken.
For real meat, that first 30 grams of protein is prioritized for muscle growth/rebuilding, which is important to understand if you solely want to get huge. The rest is utilized as energy (converted to glucose on demand), utilized wherever else amino acids are needed, and finally stored as fat. This means protein can be loaded up on to fuel a workout later on, like carbs but more slowly available and for a longer period of time.
For liquid whey protein, that shit moves through the digestive system so fast you may only be about to get 25-50% of what you ingest, regardless of amount. Eating solid food prior to the shake or adding enzymes can help this somewhat.
Faggot related, he's not wrong.

Why do you think so many manga focus so intently on food and wholesome home cooked meals made by the girl you love? It's fantasy. It's pure 100% distilled fantasy. It's the thing they all want and don't have. We know we're eating poison. We know it's probably going to give us cancer and heart disease. We know a 2D image will never be able to hold your hand. We know it's going to be a lifetime of cold empty apartments and dying alone.
But it's what's here. It's what we have to do to survive. Man needs food and love. Combini sells food. Anime sells love.

>it's better that your students think you're a deviant doujin reader than a cosplayer

I mean fuck look at the cosplay collage, that rabbit has jugs two cup sizes larger than sensei normally does
>learn how2diet instead of being a tard and thinking it's all just intuitive shit
>your deltoids are all outta juice
Now onto lessons unlearned:
<how to OHP in completely the wrong fucking way
This is the first time in this show I've seen something I definitively knew off the bat was just wrong. It's not even a minor mistake, it's simply incorrect, and you can jewgle for the info if you don't believe me. The way they described the OHP was "don't move your upper body" (yes, you do; you need to tilt back when the bar's going up or down), "don't straighten your arms" (yes, you're supposed to lock out), and they show the bar moving in a curved line which you NEVER do with a BB compound. Straight lines only, and for the OHP, that requires tilting back a bit to push the bar up and then again when it comes back down. The part about "hurting your back" is retarded too, if it's too much weight for your spine to stabilize you just lower the weight or, in case of emergency, drop the bar and GTFO of the way.
The show's been pretty good so far on dishing out valuable, mostly correct info, but this one was a clear case of "they got it wrong."

Depending on how long you've been lifting, this is normal, but it does sound like you aren't getting calories. You can increase your maximum working weight if you do a 10% reset (or maybe 15/20%? it's been a while since I had to look into resets) but that's only going to make you a bit stronger, not necessarily bigger.

I feel like I'm comfortable enough with my squat form to say that some level of knee creaking/pain just comes with the territory. With regard to center of balance, going too far forward (on your toes) will cause excessive knee popping, while going too far back (on your heels) will make you fall backwards, but the happy medium for me still has a little knee popping. Don't worry about it unless you feel a sharp pain during or after the lift.

> No reason to do bent over stuff to train back unless you only have a barbell or something
You need to do a pulling back motion in order to train the muscles around your scapula and upper spine. Anything that somewhat resembles both arms trying to start a lawnmower with a ripcord, for example. BOR does that the best, and anon asked for a muscular back. The only other alternative is doing cable pulls, and that's obviously not ideal compared to a free motion barbell compound. If you're not doing either of those exercises, there are muscles you are neglecting on your back.

The machines part kind of annoyed me. They tried to claim they weren't useless compared to free weights, but didn't have convincing rationale to support that. "They support your main lifts," uh yeah, that's what isolations are for. You don't need machines for those, and they don't allow you to recruit stabilizers. They also make it far easier for a certain amount of weight, so you can't go by that value to determine your actual strength.
Finally, unless you're someone training for size who already has their strength base established, trying to "shore up" a single muscle in the group of them that you use, by "taking pressure off" the others, is fucking pointless. You perform lifts by using a bunch of different muscles, you're only as strong as all those muscles used together at once. Imagine you use a machine to strengthen one muscle in a group you use to lift, that's not going to help that lift, because now your limiting factor are all the other muscles that need to be used for it. And you have a single muscle that is stronger than it "needs" to be, and it won't be getting used to its max when you go to perform that lift, because it's overtaken the other muscles.

I like to do crunches and sideplanks while I watch anime, since it's more effective to use your time watching anime effectively and actively improve yourself while watching it. Since you can't learn nip while watching anime, it's better to do excercises so that you are healthy for your waifu.
