No, he was Josuke's first real opponent, the guy above Yoshigage's apartment. He went into an autistic murder rampage because Kira told him he was neither a man of the sea or the land. A pretty weak antagonist all around, really, Araki doesn't normally bring back random fuckers to be late-game opponents and that guy seems like in the bottom list of suitable candidates for such a twist.

Part 8 isn't very good. I keep getting told "b-but its just because you are reading it as it goes on!" and thats not stopping me enjoying Berserks bi yearly chapters BECAUSE IT HAS A COHERENT PLOT AND THINGS FUCKING HAPPEN.
Part 7 was superb. It was the culmination of a change that started in jojo midway through part 4 and ends with Jhonny pointing a gun at Valentine and being actually convinced to lover the gun because the series villain is doing evil things but actually does have the best of intentions and thats hard to answer with just more murder. Thats excellent writing and really hard to pull off well. The art is great, though once you learn Gyro is based on Britney Spears its hard to unsee, and the pacing is the best Araki has ever been.
Then we get part 8 and maybe with the explosion in popularity worldwide luckyland as a whole is distracting/exhausting him but it feels soulless and empty. It feels paradoxically like its in the final act but also like its just getting started. Its taken longer than Part 7's entire run and we know less now than we did a year ago.
I've been a huge fan of the series for years but i'm not a blind fanboy and have to say that as much as there are glimpses of a great series part 8 is Araki's worst work and i just want it to end already.

Not going to go against you here. When I started reading it, Very few things about it grabbed me. I didn't particularly like Gappy, Soft & Wet, the rock humans and the Stands in general. What I did like was Norisuke IV (dropped extremely quickly) and Gappy talking in an extremely autistic manner, but he quickly came to talk normally and now, in the retranslations, he talks normally from the get go.
At the time I chalked it up to personal taste, but the more this shit is going on, the more obvious it becomes it's an absolute narrative mess, the Stand battles are so bland even the Rohan Kishibe stand-alones are better even though there is no actual Stand battles in those.
It goes too quickly, dropping characters in and out in a blink, yet drags the fuck on. I'm mostly just reading it because I'm dying to know how the fuck Araki can possibly end this.It could happen the next chapter, or in five years from now, and both outcomes feel equally possible. Look I hate to poo poo on everyone's parade, but the act of reading part 8 feels like suicide in slow motion at this point. I'm a rather big fan of JoJo's but Jojolion is the biggest disappointment since my son.
Reasons are as follows
1. No good Jo-bros
2. Josuke (the 2nd/ Gappy), has proven to be the least approachable and comprehensible Jojo, and amnesia can be a rather cheep plot device when done poorly, Jojolion is the worst, but it's certainly not the best.
3. Rock people and rock disease combined make for the worst conflict and enemies in all of Jojo's, the illness has almost zero logic to it, and the Motivations of the rock humans is rather nebulus.
4. Hinging the entire plot around this fruit mcguffin could have been interesting, but honestly at this point it's just getting tedious to me, especially with no real major antagonist in sight.
I could go on, If we get a part 9, hopefully it's something simpler. Jojo's tends to be way more fun, the more straightforward the skeleton of the plot is. I don't mean to pigeon hole Araki, but it's the truth.

Someone in the last thread suggested Part 9 could be about the adventures of the Speedwagon Foundation: Assisting the Joestar family, investigating weird stuff around the world, keeping normalfag governments out of supernatural matters, dealing with petty stand users who think they're gods but aren't tough enough to call in a heavy hitter like Jotaro, and maybe the occasional vampire shenanigans.

I've been gradually re-watching the anime seasons while I wait for part 5 to be available in full, and over the past few hours I finished off part 3's last few arcs (d'arby the player, vanilla ice, DIO's world). Usually when I think about this series in full, part 3 is a bit lacking compared to the rest. It introduces concepts and characters that are done way better in future parts, and the stand-user-of-the-week format can make things drag. It's strange though, when I find myself at the climax and aftermath of it again, all that time spent in the leadup seems almost nostalgic. I keep thinking back to all the little moments of fun or comradery between the stand battles and the long journey taken while last train home plays on in my head. This might sound stupid, but in a way I feel glad that there's a bit of 'drag' and extra length in part 3. I think the ending wouldn't feel the same if the journey wasn't at least a bit of a slog.

Well, that's kind of all it is. It probably has the least plot of any part. It's just "we gotta kill Dio", and then they set off to kill Dio. In Part 4, for example, because you're invested in the mystery of the killer, and then the cat and mouse games, there's a bit more there to carry you through some of the lesser fights. In Part 3, everything hinges on whether an individual fight works in a vacuum, and some of them aren't that good.

It was foreshadowed. And power to stop time is not something as bullshit as most of GE powers. Honestly, it would be much better if they fought with Polnareff technique instead, where he look for blood drops. GE should only have life-gain as power and not any of his bullshit. Starfinger was a bullshit, but they had this whole "develop technique to improve stand" thing going at the time. The part that irritates me is the whole "people switch bodies and they somehow don't notice until several minutes later when it's comedically appropriate" thing. How would you not notice that your own voice is different? How would you not notice that your clothes feel different? Most importantly, how would you not suddenly trip all over yourself like a toddler because your body is suddenly a radically different size?? Clumsiness is expected even just during puberty when growth is measured in several inches per year, to say nothing of several inches after a short nap! Every time they take a step or try to reach for something they should be misjudging the distance and faltering. Mista, now in a girl's body, should do shit like expect to reach up and scratch his head but then poke himself in the eye because his new arm is much shorter than the one he is used to using.
I don't even get the Stand power-up thing. For the purpose of the narrative, it doesn't add anything. Stands don't have a "power level"; they just have whatever level of capability is needed to accomplish whatever needs to be done.
>>933460
>Jotatro out of nowhere can now also stop time is a far bigger asspull
Not really. It's not as if he suddenly gained that level of mastery over the ability out of nowhere. He built it up as DIO exposed him to The World several times in a row. Really, Jotaro did the exact same thing DIO did in learning how to stop time, he just did it a whole lot faster. Which makes some level of sense because DIO was going around in a stolen body that still hadn't reached its "perfect form" (that he finally gained when he sucked Joseph's blood), and Jotaro is kinda that fucking protagonist which means genius-level talent for learning fighting techniques goes with the territory. Which means that what Jotaro did was a little bit of an ass-pull, but at least it wasn't UNPRECEDENTED like the Stand arrows imbuing extra power when you stab a Stand with it instead of a Stand user or a potential. God forbid Kira Yoshikage had managed to grab the arrow with KQ instead of himself.

The contrast between the first two parts makes sense. Jonathan is an English gentleman, he wouldn't just randomly call people by their first name, and it's not unreasonable that a thug with a heart of gold would know at least some basic etiquette, especially in 19th century Britain. Part 2 is set after the roaring 20s, and it's about a Cola-drinking trickster teaming up with a bona fide Italian gigolo, of course they are calling each other by their first names.
Part three can be explained as a bunch of very different people with very different backgrounds having no idea how to address each other, so they just go with the familiy name, although it is a bit strange indeed. Part four makes a lot of sense, we are basically watching a bunch of "deliquents" in the 90s. Well, not exactly deliquents, but they aren't the crème de la crème of the student body.
Part five really is the odd one here. Do we have an Italian anon who could tell us how would a bunch of low level thugs would have addressed each other a good two decades before current year?

The entire rokakaka business does more harm that good in the first place, it's a high level scam that needs the very specific circumstance of the joestar/higashikata family's curse to even begin to be remotely beneficial. Take into account the sheer murdering lengths the rock humans went to protect their scam, and you should know better than to call the did nothing wrong card. They might not be after destroying the world, but they are a ruthless criminal empire with no interest but themselves. That is being a villain by any measure.
What you're confused about is that the heroes' motive for getting the rokakaka aren't exactly compelling, which is true, but it's not because muh poor murderous drug cartel don't deserve their FMA cocaine to be stolen. It's because of shitty setups that don't make you care, Seriously, anyone who gives a single shit whether Tsurugi and Holly die, raise your hand.
No.934183

I guess I care a bit if Tsurugi does, but I find it hard to swallow that his survival hinges too much on the fruit because his family has been dodging the illness using a different method, granted at an equally terrible price. I think you nailed it, the only reason I feel like the rocks have a point is because the protags all seem more concerned with grabbing the fruit for themselves (without just, you know, buying one) than preventing any harm from befalling the potential users. And, I might add, they did highlight that there was a difference between Daimo’s group and the doctors, with Daimo being (slightly) more ruthless than the latter. That said, it’s odd there was virtually no infighting (that we know of so far) between the two groups, given that Daimo straight up selling the fruit to random people probably threatened the secret of the fruit more than Josuke ever could.

>the protags all seem more concerned with grabbing the fruit for themselves (without just, you know, buying one) than preventing any harm from befalling the potential users.
Fully agreed. I think Araki, once again, wrote himself into a corner when he decided the Rokakaka should be desirable by anyone. That does indeed raise the question of why they won't just buy that shit from the smugglers. From a moral standpoint, the rock humans are a dangerous cartel, but in the context of the story, Araki clumsily made them more ruthless that they needed to be, while setting up a vague as shit "they want to change human nature with the new fruit" for the second act, without ever adressing that maybe the rokakaka is shit and should be trashed.
There is plenty of confusion to go around, to be sure, but all the same, I think the rock humans have by and large shown to much ruthlesness to earn sympathy regardless of Gappy's irrationality in the matter.

Humble fruit salesman has funny looks. Kira was interesting. Probably because it looked like actual important plot and not random unrelated stuff.

Loads of stuff. The characters are all total freaks even by Jojo standards, which is amusing.

But then whatever character you liked became unrelated stuff which made your point moot.Every character introduced in Jojolion has potential but the "I forgot" mentality from toryiama really hit araki. He needs to just admit that he is working on advising the animes or something.
>>935029
The characters, which just pop out and fade into obscurity, have done practically nothing. They are cool but they do fucking nothing. They have less interaction with the main character than with any other Jojo.

Idea for later seasons. When they go into alternative universes its different versions of them, not versions from the manga. Different artstyle could work too but it was done to death already.

>like what the wall eyes are
They're the same thing as the Devil's Palm from Part 7. The Holy Corpse's power either stuck around by the meditation tree or gave the land a stand after Johnny brought it to Morioh, the same way the leaves at Shakedown Road got their stand. The type of equivalent exchange you get from burying something in the ground might've been an "Araki forgot" moment, but it's effectively the same concept as Love Train and Ticket to Ride. Josefumi even said that the Rokakaka he grew had a different kind of equivalent exchange, presumably because he grew it on the land affected by the Corpse's power. Also just like the Devil's Palm, the Wall Eyes rose after a natural disaster. The whole reason the Higashikatas have their stands is because they live too damn close to the meditation tree, so they just got stands just like how the Devil's Palm would do. That's not a theory, that's direct correlation. It just wasn't explained well, so nobody noticed for all these years. There's still a shit-ton of unanswered questions about JJL, but I'm reasonably sure that the Wall Eyes isn't one of them.

Mine are
>jojo but it's about exploration to the deep sea with emphasis on water battles and deep pressure horror
And
>futuristic jojo that takes place in 2030+ and having each user have a unique cyber upgrade to their body that they use in battle in conduction with a stand

Stands (which are not part of the bodies) are not connected to users (in conventional way). Double ruse basically. Also it would be immediately solved if Giorno didnt stop to give his "I am the smartest" speech and just touched everyone before revealing how many things his stand can do.

Can you name a better shounen than this? The answer is no, you can't. The fight scenes are so much better than any other shounen fights. These fight scenes are written with brain and intelligence. They're very original fight scenes and don't follow a traditional fight scene formula in any way. Dragon Ball can go fuck itself. Also, the JoJo fanbase are some of the nicest and most intelligent people you will meet on the internet. We just want to have fun and share our fun little memes. I want to marry Araki, but that's muda for me unfortunately. Also, I like gay guys.
No.938597
Holy fuck. Was watching the episode, trying to (once again) make sense of what in the hell GER even is during the speech and trippy shit, when he lunged forward for the first punch, let out the first "MUDA!", hit Diavolo in the face, and then... everything froze but the "MUDAMUDAMUDA!"s continued and then spazzed out and got distorted, then themselves stopped. Everything stopped and then went black. For about thirty seconds I sat there, staring at nothing, pondering this. Huh. So he's in a time-loop being punched for eternity while also frozen. I don't remember this in the manga but that was certainly an interesting way for the anime to explain this through messing with the visual/audio like usual.
...and then the buffering wheel popped up and I realized that the fucking stream froze RIGHT at that moment. Goddamn.

Man I forgot what a fucking confusing series of asspulls and complete nonsense the end of part 5 is. Everything about Chariot Requiem could be culled from the story and it would be an improvement, just have some long drawn out confrontation with KC and have it end with Giorno getting the arrow and Requieming himself.
No.939422

I suspect Araki just got bored (or got too excited for finally learning how to drawn a woman and part 6 happened) and rushed the whole ending. Like every shit with SCR is somekind of a foreshadow, then suddenly "nope, it just lightbubble behind your head". Also further proof: Diavolo didn't got any power up like other JoJo villains. Heck, even Father Pucci got a freaking power up!
And let's not talka bout GER... Jospeh's asspull at least had some consistency with the prophecy and his other asspulling nature.
