I just finished Bakuman. I didn't look too hard, but it doesn't seem like the Internet talked about it at all. Overall, I enjoyed it, and I'm glad to have read it, but the writing was really frustrating at times. For one, the time skips were erratic, sometimes casually skipping multiple weeks. For another, the plot was really blue balls-y a number of times. A plot line would get built up, or some conflict would feel like the next chapter would be the climax and instead, the end of the chapter would be a large text box saying something to the tune of "We ultimately overcame the hardship and did even better than before!", and the next chapter, the plot would simply have moved on like it never happened. Maybe it's just me, but the series had a huge problem with a character sitting down, gripping the fabric at their knees, staring at the floor, gritting their teeth, and then shouting at whoever they're talking to about how determined they are and how they will in fact do the thing. Every antagonist is built up to be a major threat who will overtake the main characters and rip their career to shreds with no effort at all, and they all end up fizzling out and failing of their own accord, having really never impacted the story in any significant way. I'd would complain more, but I ultimately liked the series. The anime fucking sucks, though, and I'm kind of surprised given this was written by the Death Note guys.

Good thing is that seeing a series ending is sometimes good, with a finale and conclusion that wraps it up.
Bad thing is that there isn't anything new remotely good being released right now. You go to the 'update' pages and everything is either yaoi/yuri soft porn or chinese/korean shit, things that have less than 10 chapters and no story, gimmick manga, etc.
Sad times are coming.

It's good, and I like Koga more than Ohma.
My main issue with Ohma were the Niko Style, and him suffering from memory loss.
Combined with Ohma's absurd endurance, it made a lot of his fights feel very cheap.
Koga is likely going to be able to copy/steal some of his opponents techniques, which is a decent choice for a MC fighting style.
The readers will be familiar with the techniques he uses, and he probably won't be able to steal any of the secret techniques which require special conditions.

The tits matter just became a serious one and the author better deliver it at the risk of making the series crap.

Basically, it's not written nor spoken with L.

No.909085
I don't think any of you know what the fuck you're talking about, so let me set this straight:
In most western languages, we have distinct L and R consonants which are pronounced completely differently. In Japanese, these do not exist. Instead, you have a blending of the two, and the actual sound most Japanese people make when pronouncing things that are romanized as having an L or and R in them is something inbetween the two. Depending on the region and even individual people, it can sound more like R or more like L, but it's still neither of the two. The kana ら、り、る、れ and ろ, which are typically romanized as starting with an r, represent that inbetween consonant before their respective vowels.
Now that's all fine and good when you're dealing with pure Japanese, and if you want to romanize something from Japanese you can pretty safely just use an R whenever you romanize any of these kana. However, when you get to words that aren't Japanese, such as loanwords, Japanese people most likely know that outside of their language there is this R/L distinction when they read one of these foreign words but they don't have the means of representing it in their language and it all gets funneled into these same kana when written and the same sound when spoken. So when you see ロンドン, you know it's actually meant to be London, not Rondon because you know what London is, what language it comes from and that everyone else calls it London with an L. But nothing in the actual Japanese writing or pronunciation tells you that's supposed to be an L, and if you didn't know about London already than you could just as well interpret it as being Rondon when written with the latin alphabet as well. And that brings us to made up fantasy names like we have here. It's the exact same issue, only this time nobody except maybe the author actually knows what the intended latin spelling is meant to be, if there even is meant to be one, since these are Japanese authors writing for a Japanese audience in Japanese.
So the bottom line is it's open to interpretation.

>My Japanese teacher in college (who was a young Japanese woman) told me specifically that R sounds were pronounced as L in English. So...
No, that's wrong. You likely visted a very basic language learning course.
The American /l/ is an alveolar approximant and verlarized to some degree, the velarization makes it a very bad approximation for the Japanese /r/.
The American /r/ is a postalveolar approximant or a retroflex.
The simple explanation of the Japanese /r/ is that it's an apical alveolar tap or postalveolar tap. And at the beginning of an utterance or after /N/, the tap is released with a rapid airflow.
Normally, you touch your alveolar ridge or the area behind it with the tip of your tongue and then release with a flap of the tongue.
But at the beginning of an utterance or after /N/, you only tap the area very lightly and add additional airflow to the release.

In some cases it sounds to me like the most accurate English approximation of the sound is actually the "tt" some dialects of English use in words like "butter". If I say that fast and then try putting the same sounds in a word like あら or だから it seems to do a pretty good job of approximating what I think I hear, better than a normal English r or l.

I still feel like the manga has been backtracking on the summer vacation arc for a while now. It very clearly set up both the idea of someone living alongside their zombie, and that it's possible for a zombie to want such a life in spite of her instincts. At that time Eve had just watched a bunch of strangers' zombies be fulfilled, felt herself sparkle and nearly disappear when Ibusuki and Tarou were in the cave, and seen Kyouko face the reality that she would never experience that. And despite all of that she still decided to be by Tarou's side. I don't find her change of heart convincing.
The "Eve is killing Tarou" thing doesn't satisfy me either since Gramps lived a long time with Kyouko conscious, with no apparent ill effects.

The manga has had problems for a long while, but for the past ~20-30 chapters or so it's gone completely off the rails.
The whole thing is a mess at this point. I realized that I no longer think of characters' actions as their own, but instead think of it all as situations written by an author. Instead of "X is worst girl because she did Y" I'm finding myself saying "the author had X do Y, which ruined everything". >Instead of "X is worst girl because she did Y" I'm finding myself saying "the author had X do Y, which ruined everything".
Agreed completely.
>There's something that's been broken
Author is rushing the ending and then is forcing events to happen, forcing characters to behave certain ways. It's like there's a goal and everyone is going there no matter what, even if the characters interactions and mannerisms must be erased to be able to get at the objective.
This reeks of axing in every way.

>Also, I always found Eve to be a fucking bother, and Ebino to be some low self-esteem tryhard. So, for me it was either Ririsu or nothing, and things crashing with no survivors is kinda cool.
I would have been fine conceptually with either a Ririsu end or an Eve end.
I think an Eve end could have been done well, with it being recognized that Eve was a conscious being with her own real "self", and with that consciousness allowing her to choose her own fate independent of the instincts of the normal zombies. End on a bittersweet note, with them determined to embrace their love despite how Tarou would be perceived and their inability to live as a normal couple.
I like the concept, but framing it as a harem was not good for it. More marketable, but not what the idea needed. Do away with Ebino as a love interest, and instead of wacky harem hijinks make the Ririsu vs Eve love triangle into a matter of putting realism over perceptions (Love the girl in front of you, not some insubstantial reflection you built in your own head!) versus idealist conviction (Eve may not be human or corporeal, but she's as real as you or I, and I love her!), and also have that develop intertwined with an exploration of the implications and questions around just what, and who, Eve is. Does she really have the consciousness she appears to have, or she too firmly integrated into Tarou's mind for that to be the case? Both routes would be viable depending on how things developed through the story. But treating it as a harem, especially the need to keep all routes viable up until one big decision near the end, was not suitable. Even more than many other series with unnecessary harems, this series needed to consistently follow one route in order to build the foundation to make that route's ending satisfy.

When you look at this twist I guess you can't say it doesn't contradict the rules of the setting, but it's awful as a narrative.
I got curious and looked up what else the author has done. His previous work was "a story of a group of college-age people who struggle with gender and sexual identity", starring among others a girl who pretended to be underage while working as a prostitute for fun, and a guy who crossdressed while fantasizing about being said prostitute. Reviews state that it had a heavy over-reliance on rape as a plot device, with more characters than not being assaulted, some more than once through the story. It was also stated that the ending was dissatisfying, and the middle was padded out with pointless drama filler.

That explains some things. I've seen conversations about a manga called "Himegoto" that left me quite confused, but now I see it's because I was thinking of a different Himegoto.
>Prunus Girl
I've got the picture on Sundome and now Himegoto, but what's the deal with that one? I see it mentioned quite a bit, with a range of positive and negative sentiment, but nothing to give me a good handle on it. I've seen it praised because trannies, which doesn't tell me much since Tumblr says that about almost every trap, I've seen it condemned for not being tranny enough, which they also say about almost every trap, and I've seen people condemn it as tranny/homo propaganda, which is also said about many traps. I've seen people complain it beats you over the head too constantly that the trap is a guy, and others claim it's kept so ambiguous that tagging it as shounen ai counts as a spoiler.
I'd tentatively put it on my To Read list, since I do like trap romances. What makes it different from any other, and deserving of the company you're giving it? It does seem to have been more divisive than many, but it's not clear to me whether that's just because it's relatively well known or because it's actually got anything different.
I do know a doujin mangaka got so much hate mail about releasing NTR of the series that she stopped drawing traps altogether, so I at least expect the series itself would be free of cuckshit if nothing else, if a doujin generated that response.

But the ones as lazy as this aren't interesting at all.

Fun fact about CPR. You are supposed to start with chest compressions and when you're doing them, you are expected to break several ribs in order to get propper compression of the lungs.

I didn't even know it was over. What a let down. I really hoped he'd go out with more of a bang.

Unsurprisingly, cuddling a schoolgirl and sniffing her hair is better than spending your day huffing oil.

I've been hit with this for the past 5 or 6 days and I just figured it's only when I refresh my follows page that it happens. Not really sure why that is, but hopefully I can continue to avoid creating Skynet while enjoying my bootleg scribbles.

Randomly stumbled upon this one: Olympic Circles.
A shy but athletic ancient Greek vase painter and possible dolphin fucker gets isekai'd to Japan and back to learn the secrets of having fun with sports.
Basically Thermae Romane but with sports instead of onsen.

This one's getting a short anime next season, I think. Anyone know how long it's supposed to be per episode?

I don't think you could really do more than 7mins per episode, or maybe do like Ueno-san and make it a 15 minute episode containing two stories.

So i hear the terrible tournament arc is over and best girl is alive again, I give it a second shot after hearing this and what do i find it's now an isekai arc, And more than that now the cast are slaves, Its not like the shit arc focusing on slavery is why i dropped this shit in the first place. I love the art and characters but i think this was far better in the first half.
