Mostly the character development of Violet and the emotional investment I got from that development. I liked how her development progressed without feeling unnatural. The only parts I disliked about the series was the war parts, which I felt was unrealistic, mostly because I'm a war-buff.

The first couple episodes were a chore to get through since despite the series playing everything off as completely serious and melodramatic, Violet's autistic reactions to everything and their results were both predictable and unintentional comedy more than anything else. That and the fact it was hyped constantly and obnoxiously on every shit anime community since more than a year before it even aired, and it's no surprise it was strongly disliked here. I was a little impressed they managed to turn Violet's personality into a strength narratively though, the second half or so was actually pretty good.

That was my impression. I don't follow other people's opinion, because I want to form my own. Everything from episode 5 or 6 so was actually pretty damn good, and I got pretty damn invested, so much so that I would consider it one of the best shows of the season.

Good episodic mellow drama, which ties in nicely with Violet's overarching development.

Loved the military aspects of the show, I have a hard-on for any early 19th century military settings. The show is up there with Sora No Woto for my favourite anime.
