The first episode will be the set-up for the first half and the first half of the battle ending right at a climax where it looks like Goblin Slayer is in trouble, and the second episode will be the second episode/the conclusion of the Goblin King fight. >Ogre: ~18ft

>Goblin Lord: ~6ft
>Goblin Paladin: ~6ft (?)
The Manga makes Ogre and the Champion seem significantly bigger, though, and the anime goes and makes Ogre absolutely fucking enormous. So I wonder what the actual canon sizes for all of them are.
Also, the text and illustration for the Goblin Paladin are inconsistent, since he's described as not being "much weaker than a human" and like a normal Goblin, but the illustration makes him look about as tall as Goblin Slayer. He also used a human-sized sword and shield easily enough.

People who get confused by the antics of the first party are the type who have clearly never ran a game on the table-top before. Their behavior is almost a 1:1 match for exactly how a bunch of newbies might behave in that scenario.
Paranoia is the domain of veteran players. Those are the nuts who point to the seven flasks of oil they picked out for starting equipment, or similar wacky antics. The same shit goes for ambushes - until a player loses his first character, you'll never see him plot one of those. So it would make sense the same shit happens here, except in this case, these people only have one life to spare.

I agree.
The begging scene was WAAAAAY the fuck too short.
I mean the big scene is for the audience holding their breath while the priestess is being tested.
You see the goblin actually crying, begging and saying that if he only is left alone, if only he is spared he would go away, never to return, a pathetic creature that only wants to live.
Then, the audience wonders "Could this be true?", or at least the dumb audience wonders that and you're shown ALL the past of the lord, all the people that spared him and got killed, how he used others, how he abused females, how he killed and raised to the top because he survived, no matter how pathetic he had to look, no matter how much dirty work he had to do: he survived and this is why he is lord.
And then you pan back to the scene and you see the purity of the priestess against the sin of the goblin, tense moments pass... then and only then can Goblin Slayer raise and do the deed, after it was shown that the priestess is knowingly letting the lord be stuck in that death wall can GS cut his throat.
Otherwise it's just a "pls let me go D:" "lul im goblin srayer", where the priestess isn't actually making a choice but just tagging along GS.
Frankly, they've could spend less time in the fighting scene (who was done poorly anyway) and more in the backstory of the lord.

You know how the Japanese like to make references to things in their shows that they don't necessarily understand or care about, or perhaps in spite of that, because it seems cool or it'll make their show stand out? Because that's what this show has done with tabletop games. There's no respect or care shown for the medium at all, it's just used to try and propel this show to greater heights. The people who ignore that and try to explain away the show's stupidity with D&D comparisons are to me the worst kind of fans, even worse than the rapefags and waifufags. Almost as bad as redditors.
>>892698 is the one who understands. Yes, the events of the original party getting wiped may make sense from a tabletop perspective. But this isn't a tabletop game, this is a light novel. And in this light novel, four young people were allowed to casually throw their lives away in an incredibly stupid and pointless fashion. They were failed not only by the adventurer's guild (which in my opinion takes too much blame considering they are essentially a glorified mercenary company) but also by whatever friends and family they had as well as the society they lived in as a whole. And the setting treats this as commonplace. What should be considered a tragic loss that should never be allowed to happen again is instead considered a common occurrence, a hazard of the work environment. After all, there's always more fresh-faced kids ready to sign their lives away and promptly sacrifice themselves for no good reason. And that's without mentioning how said sacrifice literally feeds the enemy that their society willfully ignores.
What's the message here? All things considered, I would say that there isn't one and it was solely to make the first volume/chapters as grabby as possible and it's clearly worked out well. It sums up how worthless and disposable the original party (and all new recruits by association) are. Who cares how many kids throw themselves into the meat grinder when Goblin Slayer is here and I he will kill all the goblins?
>>892670
The thing about Tolkien is basically that he was pretty bummed about how much of actual mythology had been lost to the ages, the Edda in particular, so he pretty much made his own one with some borrowing here and there. Ironic considering he was Christian and they did more than their share of bookburning over the years. Arda may have been artificial but >>892696 it's still pretty sad to see his works stripped bare of their soul, inevitable as it may have been. Even if Christopher had staunchly refused to allow derivatives of his father's work to exist, let alone licensed products like the LOTR movies for example, the decision would have fallen to someone else later down the line and his children don't seem to give a shit about their legacy other than the potential for gibs me dat.

You're right to correct me there but in fairness I was considering how tabletop games aren't big in Japan compared to the west. As presumptuous as it is for me to assume so I would think that tabletop games as we know them would come across as a western novelty. I'm sure there is a tabletop scene over there with its own games we've never even heard of but I don't think it matters much since the GS author would rather reference D&D than anything else. When they are in the water town she does it make is sound like shes interested in him, but that was only because people were making fun of him, and she didn't like it. Not really true in this case.
The reason for the modern perception that chain mail will disintegrate into rust flakes if you forget to oil it for longer than 4 hours is because of modern low-carbon steel reproductions, which are very rust-prone. Actual armour from the period would have been wrought iron, which is much more rust resistant. We still dig up nails that were buried it the 12th century, but go take a modern nail, burn off the galvanizing coating in a fire, and see if the nail is still around in a year.
The reason for needing to take autistic care of your armour in history was because most armour and weapons would be passed down for generations, or until they got stolen in battle and became someone else family heirloom. Goblin slayer's equipment has nowhere near the lifespan for that to be a factor.
That said, blood and viscera, especially bile, will cause leather to rot pretty quickly if he's not oiling/waxing it, and he's probably not since that leaves a smell even stronger than iron. Though I'm not sure if even that would be quicker than his armour getting destroyed
