They meant that the historical guy Katsura is based on was, contrary to his Gintama incarnation, an important figure of the Meiji restoration, and that it was time to acknowledge that in a humorous way.

I finished all of the series recently, it's fucking great, a real f'n masterpiece at times. Rewatching the earlier episodes now and i'm noticing all the foreshadowing to plot-twists and hints at people's backgrounds you weren't aware of the first time you saw.

As a tip, don't watch too many episodes at a time. Don't binge-watch it unless it's arcs. Just take 2-4 episodes a day if it's just singles, which i should add, should never be skipped because everything is cannon, including Gintoki's black crew he had before he met Kagura and Shinpachi. Also, it's within the comedic single-episodes the beauty and the heart of the show lies, it's the good times which makes "the real arcs" even better.

It's really a show about the characters though, you will get to love them eventually during the show. If i remember correctly you're right at when it's about to get even better after having done all the introductory-stuff for all of the main-cast and whatnot so it's going into the good stuff soon.

I remember watching that episode, getting really into the scene and then BAM! Fuck you viewer, we're going in this way instead for the last episode. It was great, i was laughing instead of crying for like an hour.

Manga was already supposed to end when that season was airing but it just kept going on. Manga even switched to a monthly magazine for the last 2 chapters because you're supposed to report that you're ending your series 6 months before, but Sorachi couldn't deliver the ending at his promised 6 months so they switched magazines.

I thought it was ending since it looked like the final confrontation but then it went into this I guess extended epilogue arc that didn't feel good. I still think Gintama is a masterpiece but it has been dragging its heels towards the end. Also the ton of dick jokes have started to become less funny in this later arc.

Sure thing there anon. The overarching plot is just basically The Turner Diaries in Japan. Only reason for the Trump-joke is because of Katsura's character being that of an utter fool and saying his catchphrase which is, someone calls him the wrong name or his nickname while he says his real name. It's a joke. Even his historical representation was a very good man and leader, which Katsura whenever he isn't around Gintoki has been shown to be a very competent man and perhaps the best leader in the show, sprinkled in between the jokes of course.

It's a very good show but you need to follow it through to actually realise this. It's more fun than any show i've ever watched, but there's a layer deeper than just being a gag-show aswell that really struck a chord to my vows as a nationalist living in Sweden.

Agreed, also the NTR shit is annoying with Okita too and how they made Katsura have a NTR fetish, that was just unnecessary. The porori season was filled with Okita constantly cucking people and the waifu arc was especially retarded. I bet the gorilla is a fucking cuck in real life.

Okita is a fan favorite by female readers and it's annoying how his shit was pushed constantly, his sadism was crap. It felt like you need to be an S to enjoy Gin's sadism while Okita's is aimed at everyone not him so it works the other way around. No wonder woman like him.

On an actual related note to the topic, The anime is better due to the superior voice acting. The skill of each VA putting in emotions and landing the jokes makes the entire thing better than just reading it.
