Isn't that the case with any sequel, remake, reimagining of any franchise? There are rare cases where the sequel is ever good as the original that made the franchise popular in the first place.
Progressive was pretty bad. It took the style that was that one manga scene in the original and spread that over 6 episodes. Even though the first episodes of both feel like rehashes, I think Alternative at least tried to go for the puberty aspect from a girl groups respective for it's 6 episode allotment. They might turn out okay a couple of months after you get it out of being fresh and new in your mind and try to overly compare it to the original but I think it'll just turn out the same. Progressive was stylish trash and Alternative is okay but unnecessary.
Also, I'm not sure if there is much political subtext to that collared woman. I know she's based on a real person since I recognized that character from a mahjong manga I read in the past. You know, the one where you fight super saiyan Hitler on the moon.
