Let's have a general thread for stuff that doesn't necessarily deserve its own thread/fit into one particular thread. How are things going, anon? Are you enjoying this current season? Anything you've dropped or picked up late? I feel like this season started out really good and it's kind of fizzled out halfway in. Is it everyone going back to Uni? I know there's a lot of translation companies censoring things, especially in the VN world, but remember to take it easy and practice your reps! Are you going to enjoy r/a/dio tonight with the new DJ? The comfy stream on Sunday? How have you felt about all these newcomers helping with r/a/dio, /a/?

Is life going alright? I know this is a stressful time of year between new schools, new jobs, moving, and new bills. I hope everything is going well at home, anon. Do your best, anon! Ganbatte! I don't want to see other anons go to Gensokyo before me, after all.

> I feel like this season started out really good and it's kind of fizzled out halfway in

I feel the same. I only picked up 4 shows, but I feel burned out with most of them. Tonegawa is the only show I'm genuinely enjoying and anticipating. I fell behind on the anime club, and need to marathon through the latter half of Lodoss. It's been refreshing though. I think I've been watching too much slice of life lately. Didn't know there was a new streamer tonight, but I'm looking forward to it like any other Saturday.

 No.852619>>853279

I thought the season started off weak, and I still think that now, but overall I'm watching 19 shows at the midpoint which is slightly above average. What's missing are the 10/10s. There's not a single show that is really outstanding. Revue Starlight is probably the closest, but it just doesn't quite have enough in it. There's Overlord, but Overlord is getting hit by the downtime episodes where nothing particularly fun or interesting happens. YnS also had one or two such episodes. Planet With is all around good, but not that good. And so on, and so on, with Tonegawa, Isekai Maou, High Score Girl; then Akkun to Kanojo is great, but a 3-minute show just can't fit enough of a punch to get into the 10/10 range.

So there's a lot of good shows, but none of them stand out enough to be competing with Sorayori for AOTY.

 No.852623>>852631

We already have S/a/turday threads.

 No.852631>>852634

>>852623

It's an interesting idea for a thread. There are times when I'd like to chat about older shows without wanting to make a general just for that show Sort of like a Questions and Comments TDDTOT. Though I suppose saving it for r/a/dio makes the party more lively.

 No.852634>>852644

>>852631

Sometimes I've been thinking about making a general thread for seasonal anime that just can't sustain their own thread as well, but the downside is that it's hard to tell at the start of the season if I'll even be watching any shows like that. In any case I don't think it'd hurt to have a general discussion thread, so long as it doesn't run off on its own, becoming 70% of the board traffic.

I'm enjoying Chio-chan and I love Jashin-Chan. There's a few other anime that I have to catch up with / am adding to my backlog since I'm fucking slow going at my own pace, as every season.

Yes. The best year this decade.

>seasonal anime that just can't sustain their own thread

This. I'm probably the only one watching Free. Its quite enjoyable because if you watch with yuri goggles its becomes cute girls swimming cutely with implied yuri. All the characters act like girls and one of them is essentially Yui so it works.

Is anyone else watching Banana Fish? Its literally gay beyond Free level but is interesting enough to keep watching. That immediately makes it better than the smartphone 2.0 anime.

In the same topic, does anyone know the continuation date for Beatless and Marchen Madchen?

>>852605 (OP)

>How are things going, anon?

Its that time of year before the fall storm begins. Referring to normalfags being active again with NFL, MLB, holiday seasons, eating too much, etc. I'm just enjoying the last of time of year when being alone is seen as acceptable by them.

>Are you enjoying this current season?

Its pretty average. The CGDCT shows are not that great (except yama no susume) but next season looks to be fantastic as long as theyre all not shorts. Asobi Asobase, the yakuza turned idol anime, and chiochan I thought would be much more hilarious than they are. Theyre funny but only enough to smile or chuckle and never enough to leave you suffocating.

>newcomers in radio

As long as they don't fight each other its okay. I'm biased toward Torpedo because Haifuri was a good anime.

>Is anyone else watching Banana Fish?

I watched the first couple of episodes. It was interesting to see a Japanese take on an American crime story but it just got kind of dumb and it wasn't engaging enough to keep watching.

I used to think MAPPA could do no wrong but they haven't made a good show in a while now.

>better than the smartphone 2.0 anime

Smartphone 2.0 was probably the worst thing I picked up this season, and that badminton anime was really pretty fucking bad too. I usually don't mind these isekai harem whatevers, at least manage to finish them even if there's plenty to dislike, but Smartphone 2.0 took all the worst aspects of each with almost none of the good ones, dropped it around the fourth episode.

I'm not watching either of those, but I'm still watching Kyoto Holmes somehow, which is also pretty gay. Literally every episode is

>"hello i am holmes desu"

>something happens

>"heh, this is below my level, I figured out exactly what happened before it even happened"

<"sugoiiiii Holmes-san, kakkoiiii~~"

>"nothin' personnel, bby"

Be glad you dropped it. It is starting to go downhill as they just started the "i dont want this harem" arc along with kind of dropping the whole smartphone for tactics aspect. MC is just making stuff up as he goes at this point.

This season isn't great, but not all bad. Probably beats last year's summer season. Enjoying Chio-chan, Jashin-chan, Asobi Asobase the most. Isekai Maou reminds me of Hataraku Maou-sama for some reason, probably because MC reminds me of Alciel. Other shows are being watched, but memorable? Hardly, just filler.

Thanks to my /wooo/ habits, any of my free time has been limited lately. But at least it's nothing 'E, so that's not so bad.

Personally, work, work, more work, and for the 3ed time in the past month and a half, my car has decided to stop working correctly, so for the next week or so, I'll be biking to work, unless it's raining, when I'll be on foot.

The main package they're selling for this thing is a 30min video session of Tsugu on her summer vacation. It's set up in different tiers, but It will be shipped as DVD and VHS (planned) then a week later as digital download.

I was all set to move out of my parents' house. Had a really nice apartment picked and everything (brand new building, in-suite laundry and temperature control, good location, etc.). Then I ran the numbers one last time and realized that if I lived with them until at least next May, I could pay off my entire student debt and still have plenty left in the bank for contingencies once I do move out. Anon who recommended sculpey and offered up some tips months ago here: You did really great for a beginner. The first few attempts aren't going to turn out right. Each time you start on something new, you'll get a little better and learn to use the tricks you taught yourself along the way. Keep making mistakes so you can get them out of the way.

Also, don't be afraid to try and repair and improve what you've already made. Sure, there's something to be said about doing something right the first time, but refinement is a skill too.

>At least I can paint her million times, so it's not that of a huge loss.

Actually, not really. Each new coat you add makes the paint layer just a little bit thicker. It's not a lot, but it builds up deceptively fast. If you get too carried away, it can start to look more and more like >>862065. It's more of an issue with anything with lots of fine detail (i.e. 28mm figures, as other anons have already alluded to) but it can start to look kind of "gloopy" on just about anything if you add enough paint. It gets even worse if you don't thin the paints properly. You can definitely get away with another few layers of paint on top of what you already have, just be aware of this.

Personally, I'm against doing that. Here's a bit of advice I learned that helped me improve with painting: just finish the damn thing and walk away, no matter how bad you think it looks. That feeling of closure can do wonders for your confidence; don't underestimate that. Don't, to quote Bob Ross, piddle it to death, don't spend all your time tweaking and touching up little details, don't redo the job. Force yourself to be satisfied with the result, learn what you did wrong and research new techniques, and apply the lessons you've learned to your next project. And you keep doing that with the project afterwards and so on and so forth.

You need to THIN YOUR PAINTS, you need to neaten up lines, and you have to learn ways to make the detail in the sculpt really stand out. It's amateruish, it isn't that great; it's the brutal, honest truth. But neither were my first Dudes. They looked like molten rubber shit; actually, I never bothered stripping them, and they look worse and worse by the day. But I'd stumble across tutorials and videos, and pick up little bits here and there, and try them out on my next figure. After a few months, I had everything sitting next to each other, and it floored me just how different everything looked. The inconsistency still makes my autism flare up, though.

You've already immortalized your first work. Just find new projects and come back to impress us.

I wasn't planning on writing all of this.

That's actually what I was about to do. But if Rob Ross says so, I won't.

Painting tips from a fa/tg/uy:

Primer: put a layer of primer colour on the entire thing. Black or white, your choice. Black primer makes shadows stand out more. White primer makes highlights easier. It's entirely up for preference/the colours you want to apply later. Anyone who says otherwise is a liar. Since Nanachi's fur is mostly white, I would suggest a white or grey primer.

This hides natural imbalances in the material. It also allows the colours that go on top of it to be spread with different layers of thickness. Having primer shimmer trough the paint at some spots, and having a thicker layer of colour in others makes the colouring look more natural, and allows you to do highlights/shadows a lot easier.

Thin your fucking paints: /tg/ has few serious memes. This is one of them. Thin your fucking paints. Take a glass of water, put a bit of colour on some surface (not the figurine), dip your brush into water, mix it with the paint and only then should you start painting.

Paints are always far too thick for figurines. They will cover too much of the primer and will reflect light too much, causing a glossy look. A thin layer of paint also won't conceal all the details of the actual material below. Thinning your paints allows you to be much more precise with how thick you want your paints to be, from a watery "barely a hint" of red to "cut if off already!" red. You can achieve very natural looks with a solid primer and thinned paints.

Wash and drybrushing: Did you finish your figurine, but you think it is missing something? Do shadows not stand out as much, and do light areas not shine as bright as you want them too?

A nice way to finish your figure is by washing and drybrushing it. "Wash paints" are super duper thin paints, that are most often dark in colour. You can paint your figure with them, and they will run into folds and accumulate in areas where there would be natural shadows. Don't overuse them. There is no need to thin them.

"Drybrushing" is the opposite of washing. It is used to highlight areas where you would think light is reflecting, or to add a slight transition in colour. Use a stiff brush and do it very quickly. Use very very little paint.

Watch all of the videos on that channel actually. It's very good.

Wash and drybrushing isn't "necessary", but it can really add to the figure.

>>862036

That was very rude. I laughed though.

>enamel

I fucking knew it. I should have tried to guess what you were using.

Enamel is used more for model cars and planes and the like. Detail retention is abysmal, you'll notice the difference when you switch to acrylics. Also, you should know you'll probably do well with artist's paints from a craft store. Modeling paints are formulated to retain fine detail and attempt to hold up to manhandling by greasy neckbeards, but they're also pound-for-pound more expensive than a tube of artist's paints. Eventually, you might find yourself branching out into other styles and techniques; the basics are identical and everything you've been told so far is correct, but this is closer to bust painting than miniature figure painting. That's not something you worry about until much later down the road, though.

 No.862346

They sell brush-on primer at craft stores. Not as good as spray-on, but it works. I don't think many of them play well with water, though. The Vallejo primer I have will turn runny, lose it's surface adhesion, and start clogging up details. It also dries with this weird glossy finish. I have a half-gallon jug of economy de gesso, and it says on the label:

>If thinned with water, cracking and poor adhesion occur

I used to use it, and thin it with water, back when I first started, and it was a big reason why so many of my first models looked like shit. Usually primer is thin enough right out of the bottle that it won't interfere with detail.

Now you've got a taste, and you're going to begin spending more and more on better and better supplies. Maybe one day you'll decide you want to try oils, or find a way to justify dropping a fat chunk of change on Windsor and Newtons. You will be compelled to buy that airbrush one day, it is an inevitability now.

Rattle-can-primer is nice to have, but not a must. I used normal brush primer for years and it works fine.

You usually don't have to thin primer, but if you really want to make sure that certain details don't get washed under you can thin it a little bit

It's not so much about how thick the layer of paint is, but rather how well it covers what's below. Different paints works differently, and there are lots of differences between paints from different brands. You should experiment a lot and see what works best for your equipment.

You need a 12V adapter to run it off 220V. However, there are two issues, one is that these compressors usually don't have enough airflow, they supposedly have around 25L/min, and airbrushes tend to be rated for about 70-80L/min, the other is that if you use those cheap tire compressors for a long time continuously (more than 10 minutes) they will overheat and eventually fail pretty quickly.

You can buy regular 220V compressors for 70-80 shekels nowadays and they tend to have pressure regulators on them too.

Plus the compressor makes a horrible noise as it slowly fill the reservoir up to the whatever little pressure it can produce.

We don't have a thread for Ulysses and I sure ain't making it now.

My expectations weren't really high for it to begin with since it's just another generic fantasy harem, but I've seen very few series where they go so far as to have the bad guys genocide the token cutesy, completely defenseless creatures for the hell of it. Goblin Slayer's shit was disgusting, but Ulysses was just sad. And just like in Goblin Slayer, it achieved nothing whatsoever, because Jeanne could've gotten killed in any other way, have her dead sister flashback, and still do that generic "cute girl gets hurt by bad people, so sad" segment. I don't get these writers, honestly.

What did you cook recently, anons? I made poorfag green "curry."

Ingredients:

>Three large shredded Zuchinni

>Rice

>Chicken broth

>Butter

>Two medium-sized onions

>Four stalks of celery

>Spicy cooking peppers

>Garlic

>Jarred Green Coconut Curry (too lazy to make my own right now)

>1/2 cup of milk (cow, coconut, doesn't matter)

>4 tablespoons of cream cheese

1) Cook rice in chicken broth, add butter to taste, maybe a hint of saffron or sesame oil if you like it.

2) Sauté onions, garlic, Thai red chile peppers, and celery in oil until soft (add potatoes/carrots here if you want them in your poorfag curry).

I used avocado oil, but bacon grease, butter, sesame oil, etc. all work. Don't use canola unless you're a nigger.

3) Add shredded zuchinni + juices, simmer until zuchinni is no longer releasing a ton of juice/juices are starting to evaporate (add any other vegetables you want in your curry at this time).

4) Add curry sauce (alternatively add water if you made your own curry seasoning mix here) and milk.

5) Add spam after it comes to a simmer again.

6) Thicken with cream cheese (this also makes it more creamy).

7) Ladle onto rice and serve.

I added a little bit of coconut aminos (weightlifter's soy sauce) to my dish for うま味 and I had some frozen Tyson's Terriyaki chicken on hand so I baked a little bit in the oven to put on top. The texture is like a porridge if the rice wasn't simmered long enough with a nice spice to it and a zing from the cream cheese melted in. The salt content is a little high, but that can't be helped since I used spam instead of cooking with real meat since I wanted to make it quickly.

That's fine, but the comparison I was ultimately getting at was

>cute girl gets hurt by bad people, so sad

that is, the rape/murder scenes in episode 1. Which didn't really achieve anything other than having a graphic, sad scene for the sake of having a graphic, sad scene. Which was the same in Ulysses. Cheap feelbait, or fapbait if you are so inclined.

>Which didn't really achieve anything other than having a graphic, sad scene for the sake of having a graphic, sad scene.

It's literally to show how devastating goblins are and how people underestimate them.

Goblins are weak on their own, so adventurers would rather go and kill a dragon, plus adventurers think monster = dumb and weak = lv 1, so showing adventurers getting fucking raped and mauled by these weak creatures really get across the point that they are something that should not be left alone.

Also, it's on the first episode to set the tone of the series, so you don't have goblin slayer killing goblin kids out of nowhere without you understanding why. Also, IIRC that's either the only one or one of two rapes in the series, the other are just attempts or mentions.

How do you quit the bad taboo hentai doujin once you've seen them. It just makes me jaded and sad, but at the same time I find fascination in the depths of depravity of the artist's minds and don't let it affect me personally. But I still sympathize with what's going on and it's clear when some artists intended to evoke a certain feeling which is difficult to just callously brush off. I do just brush it off eventually though. What's the incentive behind all of this, though? I'm starting to think life is meant to be lived in a perpetual state of discontent and fear, and some of the rare stuff on sadpanda is there to evoke that primal feeling of tribulation. So it makes you feel alive but it also makes you feel bad and the bad feeling persists. Maybe that constant fear is just how life is meant to be lived if not for the pampering of modern day society.

But here's what bothers me, as of late I stopped being interested in the actual material being written and drawn and more interested in the author, regardless of the created material. I think this is all from too much isolation which makes me wish to understand and know the makers of what I fap to more than the material itself. Anyone else experience this? I used to not really pay much attention to the artists but now I can't help thinking about meeting them for no particular purpose at all. For obvious reasons this only applies to hentai-related doujinshi.

 No.871939

>>871927

I, personally, don't think it's a good idea to derive philosophical insights on the nature of existence from hentai doujins. The more deprived the art the more depraved the mind of the artists, it is not a good idea to find any contentment from these sources. A good book nurtures the mind, a bad one leads to bad education, and one born from the hateful and depraved will lead to same. I'd suggest putting your inquiries and current wants in the fruitful and happy, or at the very least the imaginary, for mental health. Really, one has to ask, what does this say about you? Often, when I'm lonely, I imagine myself to be with those I admire. To ask and share in the pains and aims of life. The symptoms may share a common root.

Like all attachments the goal is to remove yourself from any suggestive or arousing environments. You can do this either mentally through shear willpower, as in mentally stopping yourself from thinking about the thing(s) you don't want to think about, or physically (or virtually) by removing yourself from anyplace that might arouse your vice. There is no shortcut, but pain gives sweet reward. Perhaps, maybe, suffering can be it's own reward.

This is general life advice. Find something you're interested in and engage in it. Life becomes pointless without engaging in a skill, any skill.

 No.871943

>>871912

>It is not, they could've gotten away with a far milder scene, hell, a good writer could've gotten away with mere suggestions to get the exact same point across.

I'd argue that it makes sense, considering the story.

Goblin Slayer was an innocent kid happily living with his sister, the adults jokingly scared the children with stuff like "you become a golbin if you're jealous", goblins were just boogeyman. Then one day goblins attacked, raped his sister in front of him and fucking mauled everyone in the village. He gets to the point where he could seek bigger foes, get money, settle down, get woman or anything he wanted, yet he doesn't do it, because he's just a broken autistic kid in an armor moved purely by emotional reasons.

You come in expecting the default RPG hero story, then you get in your face graphic content, it really settles the tone of the story and gives you the mindset of the protagonist.

Later on in the story the girl whose friends got killed by goblins hesitates to kill a kid, whereas both you and GS who know what the green plague acknowledge the need to kill the niglets, because you saw what they could do.

When you make someone talk about it, either by mentions or actually talking about it, it loses a lot of the impact. The character is telling you his view on things. But when you experience it first hand as an objective fact it makes it really personal, so I don't think suggestions would work as well.

Also, verbose stuff sucks in anime, so while a text-only graphic depiction could work in the mango or in a LN, I think actually showing it in visual format was the best for the anime.

 No.872109>>872119 >>872124

The problem is that Goblin Slayer plays be really fucking stupid double standards. So, like, everything plays by JRPG rules on the surface. Class systems, magic name attacks, enemy types, armor... all of it screams generic JRPG fantasy setting. And then the author wants us to take him seriously when he pulls stuff like "Ha ha, look at these named characters not wearing helmets so you can see their face. They are so easy to kill! lol, aren't they dumb for wearing such impractical armor?" Which is only smart if you are fucking shit tier pleb who takes the 'twist' at face value. What it REALLY does is create the plot hole in the authors own setting of "if this armor is so fucking impractical and shitty, how is there an entire manufacturing economy that mass produces this stuff such that all these adventurers keep getting their hands on it? And how has no one figured out that heads are a vulnerable part of the body before now if all of the enemies do nothing but cheap shot the skull?" Its like the entire world used to operate by different rules and, as soon as the story starts, suddenly all of the tropes stopped working and everything became gritty and realistic, and none of the characters have learned the new rules yet because last week this wasn't how the world worked. It just the most garbage, bottom tier of power fantasy: the MC is stronk not because he is anything special, but because the entire rest of the world has been written to be inexplicably and illogically inept.

Nothing like that really happens. That female warrior getting stoned in the head was exclusive to the manga version, and it was on of the dumber parts of that adaptation. As was the "We'll fight the rock eater so let's wear helmets this time" part in year one.

The more advanced adventurers look down on him because his armor looks shitty. It is never mentioned that they suffer any drawbacks for not wearing a helmet or using that fantasy plate.

I really wanted the marble inside the bottle so I took a screwdriver to it to wedge the cap off. It looks like a shard of glass from the top of the bottle broke off when it came off and I can't find where it went, so I might step on it in the future if I can't find it. I got the marble though.

Currently in a 1 year animation program, started in late August. We slap the paper on the animation discs and take pictures of it on a mounted camera using some ancient janky application called digicel flipbook.

It's a very fast paced and compact program, demanding about 1-2 animations a week alongside a bunch of other things in between (story boards, layouts, character design, background design, life drawing, program workshops). Class schedule is regularly 9AM to 8PM, and missing the deadline results in a mark of 0 so it's pretty comfy.

All I wanted to do was to get to my backlog and what I thought would be a simple download has turned into trying to defuse a bomb. There are so many extremely wide ranges in filesize that I have no idea what the difference is between any of them besides obvious ones like 720 vs 1080. It hurts to be this retarded.

I have no idea at all how they arrived at a 35GB filesize. The movie is what, roughly the size of 3-4 episodes if it was a seasonal series, and the BDs I have of UBW are about half a GB each, so I would expect no more than 4 GB for the filesize.

 No.887977

>>887976

It's a BD remux, which I think means that it's basically a direct copy of the data from the BD but put in a different container format. BDs have a large capacity (typically 25-50 GB), so that size isn't surprising.
