I liked the LN before it disappeared. Allegedly up through vol 3 is translated, but that involves shelling out cash to 3rd party "translators."

The manga has beautiful art and Tanya has some incredible faces ranging from psychotic to adorable. I also enjoy her inner struggles even more, how both she and the other person she's talking to are freaking out or misinterpreting things. The humor that comes from "Tanya wants a cozy easy job but fate or her attitude lands her in increasingly difficult tasks" is even better. I'm also disliking how some side characters looked in the anime when you compare them to the manga, especially the glasses dude that dislikes Tanya, that hairdo looked stupid. The thing I truly liked about the anime was the sound design, the explosions had some really nice distortion. The only thing I'm really not that fond about is the strategy panels with the uniformed animals, but it's a minor thing, really.

I'm fuzzy since I haven't touched the LN in a good while but the manga seems more faithful than the anime and I actually enjoy the animal scenes since they tend to be vaguely educational.

Sincere and easy recommendation to anyone who wants more of what they got from the season, but better.

With the tactics animal pages, they come off to me as being more like a child's game. Namely, its how Tanya views the war and the world around her, an abstract game she (unwillingly) participates in. The real "war" for her is beating God.

That's just how I've interpreted it, and I could easily be reading too much in to it.

I attribute it more to the writer forgetting the point of his own premise. You see it happen a lot, but in this case it's pretty minor. he forgot that Tanya isn't actually supposed to be a kwaii little girl at heart, but nips love kawaii little girls too much to not cram it in whenever possible.

The first one is in chapter one and it comes just after Tanya concluding that being a child soldier wasn't so bad since it fed into "her" definitely successful future career, maniacally proclaiming that the job "she" found was easy, that it was all uphill from there and totally safe and free promotions abounded, that "she" would be receiving a nice bed and warm meals, despite being embroiled in what was clearly going to be the bloodiest war in alt-Earth history. The old man is treating the job as a joke and war as a game and the animal soldier scenes communicate that pretty well.

If it's in her real-life presentation, that makes sense, and Tanya would enjoy fucking with them. It's neither and never implied to be within her own mind, it's an author stand-in to explain the setting or basic military knowledge. The thing is that it also fits the theme of Tanya treating war like "child's play", which may be why the mangaka had that idea.

Manga is great. I reread the whole thing every time a new chapter drops. Art isn't as good as the LN but it's still enjoyable. The LN got dropped because it was too much of a pain in the ass for the translators to work on. I think you can buy liscenced translation.

Also I am fairly certain end game of this series is Tanya now a distinguished women her true identity only known to a few confidents and trusted former superior speaking in beer halls.

How about none of that shit is real and Germany simply could never accept they had lost a war they started? They could have payed the war damages, that were considerably less than what they had afflicted to France in the 1871 Treaty of Versailles, for a 4 months of skirmishes IN FRANCE.

France had to pay 5 billion francs-gold, losses the entirety of it's steel production area FOREVER and the production area of 70% of it's coal FOREVER, debt payment was 1 Billion per year, German troops occupying the country leaving little by little over the years as payments were made. Which France still payed in 4 years.

Compare it to the 132 marks-gold Germany was asked for after WWI and the fact they had only payed 19 in 1932. And no the economy of half of France, the rest being under military occupation, in 1871 wasn't richer than Weimar Germany in 1919. German economy was at least 20 times bigger more likely 200...

While I would agree, France, in fair retribution, did hound them to the degree the UK and US told them to back off. One must remember that conspiracy theories aren't all encompassing and can coincide with other issues, e.g. individual jews don't have much power and some agendas they've pushed have come about via natural means, so it's entierly possible the result is due to both matters. That is incorrect, even constantly borrowing to pay for it they couldn't keep up with payments leading to devaluation.

Both of these are innaccuate, but the second only sort of. The way reparations were paid was by first issuing bonds (which the German government paid interest on and which has only recently been paid off).

This is wrong on both counts. They most certainly tried to pay and it ruined their economy. They eventually did pay it off.

5 billion francs is significantly less than 20 billion gold marks. The former was (roughly, I had trouble finding anything out about this) worth $1 billion while the latter was $5 billion.

Let's also not forget the occupation of the Rhineland which constituted much of Germany's coal production, as well as being a large chunk of their industrial sector. I have a new respect for translators. It does not take a long time to translate the words from nip to English, but it takes a lot of work to get it to read anything like English. I am going to roughly translate the whole chapter first, then go back through and edit it so it makes sense, that will allow me to have some idea of what is going on in the story while I try to figure out what he context of the words is.

I am up to 13 pages translated out of the 96 page first chapter. I feel like I will need to dedicate a few days to just knocking it out to actually get it done, but I have made sure to dedicate an hour a day at least to translating. I will get it done eventually.

As an aside, can anyone recommend good reference sites for Kanji? There is a lot of difficult terminology in this series and I find myself spending lots of time looking up characters and groups of characters that I do not understand. When I was doing Spanish translation work I would use WordReference.com because it was pretty good but it doesn't have a Japanese section so I have been trying out various sites on google and most of them have been sub par.

I have the first chapter almost done, but I've got no real plan to release it since the translation has been going really poorly. It's just not worth it.

Been doing my reps every day, though, and I'll tell you guys my plans for the future.

Vol 4 is dropping November 27th from the Yid Press, so just bite the bullet and read that. I'm going to take the things I've learned from translating volume 4 chapter 1 and get right to work after I finish reading volume 4.

I made a wordpress for my Konosuba translation and it hasn't had any trouble so far. Granted, the fact that the only people who know about it are the people who saw my other posts about it on /a/ is probably the reason why. I also upload them to nyaa since I always keep my torrent client running when my PC is on so it's not too hard to seed a few .pdfs.
