I finally finished the episodes they held back and I have to say I enjoyed the series. At first I truly despised it and Shaft for ruining a Fate show, but once I got used to the stylistic elements and learned to ignore the horrific QUALITY I realised that it has all the strong points that the best Fate stuff has. It helped that Nero is 10x as good as Artoria.

For the record, F/GO isn't exactly a wonder of complex mechanics, but there's enough depth to it that I've had people glaze over and tell me the game sounds too hard when explain the intricacies behind it - mostly the hidden numbers that you don't see, and what they do. It's one of the most complex non-emulated mobile games, for what that's worth.

Perhaps, but the horrible grind that is inherent to the genre combined with the RNG bullshit that only is there to encourage you to pay real money and/or keep you "playing" for months or years kills any value it has. If this was a proper game with some sane way to unlock its various waifus, I'm sure that whatever mechanics it has would be fun. I enjoyed Last Encore but I don't understand why extra things were added on to the original plot. If they'd just done a straight adaptation then Hakuno being a ghost in the machine and Julius lingering between life and death out of hatred and a desire to protect Leo would have had a much stronger impact than "everyone's dead and they're dead-er", the admittedly kind of shallow character arcs for other masters wouldn't have been trivialized by repetition, and Twice would have been a more tragic character by leaving in the realization that Saver fought with him to bring him salvation.
At least they improved Leo and Gawain, and added headtilts.
