Now here is a thread I have never seen in /a/ and thats Transformers specifically the Transformer shows that never left Japan.. Things like Transformers Headmasters or Beast Wars Neo 2. I mean America did not get any of the Japanese produced Transformers till around 2001 with Transformers Armada. which was widely well received. However there is still a number of Transformers shows that have never gotten dubbed or even subbed and have forever remained untranslated.

There is also a number of Transformers manga but a lot of them are just parodies.

There are 2 reasons no one on /a/ talks about Transformers it’s either

>oh it’s western shit so who cares

As for the people who actually like Transformers and have bothered to check out the Japan only works I say stay away. Armada was the only good thing. Many Western Transformer fans do not know this but while Transformers is considered a kids cartoon in the West like boys age 10-14 in Japan Transformers is a literal toddler show. Even more interesting did you know that when a western Transformer show is sent to Japan it goes through the same kind of editing 4kids does to anime.

Was Kiss Players made for toddlers?

Got some examples of that?

In Transformers Beast Wars there were two Maximals Tigatron and Air Razor originally Air Razor was female who formed a romantic relationship with Tigatron in the Japanese dub they changed it to Air Razor being a man and they wrote off their relationship as some Samurai master and apprentice gimmick.

In Transformers Beast Machine there was a character (who admittedly looked kinda gay and was a shitty character) so they decided to take it up to 11 and make him a flamboyant gay stereotype for laughs

Also if the Transformer show features any version of Black Arachnia/Spider-bot shes overtly boy crazy like in Transformers Prime there was an episode where she was capturing people for experiments in the jap dub shes capturing people to be their boy friends and when the episode ends with her being defeated she screams "STOP NOT THE FACE I AM AN ACTRESS)"

Also if you notice in the beginning of this intro Optimus Prime talks to little kids telling them he is called Optimus Prime and not Convoy

I actually found the full context on that Transformers Prime Japanese dub

>In the Japanese dub of Prime, Airachnid's personality is completely different from her original interpretation. In the dub, she is a bubbly, giggling, high-strung chatterbox that is obsessed with collecting the heads of "handsome boys" as trophies rather than endangered creatures. Played up as something of a female Pepé Le Pew, she constantly swoons over Jack, calling him her "hunk", her "darling", her "cutie Jack-chan", and various other lovey-dovey remarks as she amorously pursues him (even going so far as to sing love songs to him, mid-chase). When she finally catches Jack near the end of "Mystery Insect Transformation! Forest of the Spider Woman!", she even proposes marriage to him.

>Also regarding the Japanese dub, Airachnid is played by Ryōka Yuzuki, the actress who dubbed Beast Wars Blackwidow and Animated Blackarachnia. As such, many of the quirks she conceived for those characters (such as a habit of making a hissing tshaaa— noise) are present. Whenever Airachnid fires her webbing, she shouts "Sticky-Sticky Attack!" (粘粘攻撃 Nebaneba Kōgeki).

They got fucking JAM PROJECT to do the intro of a freakin American Transformers show?

Surely the original Japanese stuff can't be that bad, right? Also I'm mostly interested in how the Japanese franchise is apparently mashed into one giant continuity, where everything that was ever released in Japan counts. Which is good because everything after the franchise rebooted in the west after Beast Machines is shit, but maybe if I could convince myself it was the same universe, I would give a shit.

If Beast Machines never flopped they would have continued it but instead Hasbro needed to recover loses so they just went with dubbing Armada. Which is not bad since it gave us the best Star Scream ever

Car Robots isn't a reboot in Japan, right? I guess I should watch that so I can get a bit more content out of the G1 universe, but I gotta watch all the earlier Japanese exclusive stuff first.

The concept they had for Transtech, the series after Beast Machines, sounded cool anyway. A mix of the best characters from the original era and the beast era with new designs. Make Cheetor a motorcycle or whatever, I don't care. But once you reboot it I lose interest. Just don't make it so heavy on continuity that it locks out new people. I wasn't heavy into G1 but Beast Wars hooked me. But my cousin who was into G1 more than Beast Wars watched Beast Wars because of the G1 stuff. Then later I got more into G1 because of how it was related. Rebooting kills that. Especially when you do it so often. I don't get why so many Japanese franchises do reboots practically every year. Killed Digimon for me as a kid, too.

The new Aligned continuity is kinda fucky right now becasue for a while they had a good thing going comics/video games and then a cartoon all help bring together a new continuity. Hasbro is to scared to ever move past G1/The Great War after how badly Beast Machines did. You know its bad when fucking Takara treats your own original franchise better with multiple Beast Wars Master Piece figures getting released.

If you really want to continue the japan only G1 Transformer works I think goes American G1 -> Headmasters -> Super-God Masterforce -> Victory -> Zone -> Beast Era

Its also good to recall Transformers had a marvel comic alongside the cartoon luckily it had the same writers

Zone was canceled after 1 episode which leads into Generation 2 with Generation 2 being nothing but a fancy CG intro and dumb affects over old G1 episodes. Then Beast Era starts Japan dubbed Beast Wars and felt the wait for Season 2+3 would be to long so they decided to make their own Beast Wars (Beast Wars 2/Beast Wars Neo) which are not connected with G1 whatsoever so you should be fine. Its so fucking ironic though Beast Wars saved the entire franchise in the 90s only for the sequel series to completely destroy the G1 continuity.

I know all about the Marvel comic. Best thing in the entire franchise. The UK exclusive comics are must read, too. And the Generation 2 comic. That's what got me back into Transformers lately. Even went so far as the convention exclusive comics and prose stories, and the couple prose stories which aren't technically approved by Hasbro but referenced in other material anyway. It's all good. But a couple of these start mentioning things like Beast Wars anime Galvatron, so I figure I gotta start watching all that stuff. But since it all starts with the American G1 cartoon, I gotta get through that first. Honestly while Beast Wars held up to rewatching, and Beast Machines was actually way better than I thought when I was a kid (since now I give enough of a shit about the character development and religious themes), the original G1 cartoon is shit. The movie is good as basically an extended music video, but even the episodes of G1 that actually have a story to them are still very boring. Maybe I'll skip right to Headmasters and call it a day. Though since nobody seems to talk about it I doubt it's much better.

The Japanese do not take robots that are “alive” seriously
