First look at the official English localization.
Right from the start I have a problem: Why Elfuda? If you want to rewrite the joke to work in English, make it Isanelf, or something more name sounding like Isanelfa. If you want to keep it original, and go with what your target audience is already familiar with, stick with Erufuda. If you only want to change it so it uses "elf" and not "erufu", then go with Elfda. (The series' promotional Twitter account uses this as their handle.) The only thing Elfuda does is smooth the pronunciation of the original word out.
Needless to say, I don't hold out a lot of hope for it. What little hope remains is that it doesn't end up like Dungeon Meshi's localization, where the little idiosyncracies are enough to ruin it. It took them over a fucking year to make so you'd hope that it would be better than what an amateur can crank out in less than a week, but the standards for translation in this industry are shameful, so who fucking knows.
