Second new anime of this season, it's a badmintion anime with cute girls.
I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the first episode, the production quality is good, the Seiyuu are good and it did a great job at introducing the characters.
Also they actually bothered to design the characters for the crowd shout, which always is a good sign.

>It's probably a decent budget saver
More like a budget burner, many animators are freelancers paid by the frame.
Rotoscoping usually leads to more frames being created, i.e. the studio needs to pay more to the animators.

There's usually no difference, that's why animators are constantly complaining about complex character designs.
2D animation is cheap, paying the animators a bit more isn't an issue. Finding enough 2D animators is the issue, most skilled 2D animators have a full schedule.
I also disagree with what you said in >>842359 > Even the walking around looks janky and not fluid
The rotoscoped scenes are extremely fluid, much more fluid than your average anime.
The issue with rotoscoping isn't fluidity, it's correctly mapping the 2D onto the 3D footage without the end result looking weird.
I don't deny that there are issues with rotoscoping, but the studio handled it well. There are a few bad looking scenes primarily when the males play, but overall it looks amazing.

You guys made me look up what world level badminton looks like and it seems closer to pingpong than tennis thus why it's mostly asians that are good at it. A lot of the time players are only taking one step and then reaching rather than running across the court, so even if the rallys are quicker the amount of physical ground covered isn't really as much as tennis. In doubles for example the person playing in front barely moves a lot of the time while only looking to protect against cheesy net shots and react to anything that goes right by their head. With that said rather than measuring distance covered, movement is far more explosive and dives are pretty common.
On a different note, why are they giving robocop away as a trophy in the world finals?

That's wrong, there are statistics for this.
Here is a comparsion between the 1985 world title matches for badminton and tennis.
Time: Tennis, 3 hours and 18 minutes. Badminton, 1 hour and 16
minutes.
Ball/Shuttle in Play: Tennis, 18 minutes. Badminton, 37
minutes.
Match Intensity*: Tennis, 9 percent. Badminton, 48 percent.
Rallies: Tennis 299. Badminton, 146.
Shots: Tennis, 1,004. Badminton, 1,972.
Shots Per Rally: Tennis, 3.4. Badminton, 13.5.
Distance Covered: Tennis, 2 miles. Badminton, 4 miles.
*The actual time the ball/shuttle was in flight, divided by the length of the match.
The badmintion players covered twice the distance in less than half the time.

Ayano Mom dindu nuffing wrong. It's not her fault Ayano has the tism and takes her frustrations out on other people. Ayano Mom probably explained everything to Ayano clearly but Ayano was too sick to understand which is Ayano's fault for thinking she needed to play sick. It's not Ayano Mom's fault that Ayano became a sociopath even though Ayano Mom was doing her job and teaching people badminton.
Ayano Mom did nothing wrong if anything she is a saint for putting up with her autistic daughter who goes out of her way to hurt people.

Ayano with the bully bait posting to make useless knees play in a match. I hope Ayano beats her 21-0 in both sets and makes the loser destroy her knees and end her career. I bet she played olympic sensei at 60% full strength to let bad knees think she has a chance. The gameface is great too. We have 2 or 3 episodes left and they need to be dedicated to Ayano murdering those knees and then her mother. No one cared for the stupid romantic subplot. What on Earth is mom thinking inviting Ayano to Denmark? Does she want to be slapped that badly?

This episode was disappointing because there was no drama with the mom. She just flat out ignored her after being surprised, then the tease at the end. I bet it's going to be just like last week, where they hint at something actually happening between the two and then they spend the entire episode on something else.

I suppose the revenge ending we wanted is out of the question now, but I'll be happy if she at least wins this match and doesn't forgive her mother, even if they get back on talking terms.

I hope Aragaki wins. Just because she's a cute sweaty tomboy and I like that. Ayano goes from being abandoned innocent puppy to rabid dog really fast. Then she gets a treat and now she's all game-face/butnotcrazy? Meh.
The one thing I did really enjoy is that ever since the start of this tournament you can see her slowly but surely becoming more and more like her mother. Even the hair bow and way she looks at people on the court. In this last episode against Aragaki, there were shots that were of Ayano, but if not for the pink, it could have been the mom. So in a sense, her abandoning her mother can only truly happen if she stops doing what she's doing. So I suppose her face becoming softer at the end, like in the screenshot >>863443 posted, shows that maybe she'll find value in teamwork and that will be the true way she does her maturing.
Or, the show will have her win and she'll have learned nothing or some other asspull will occur.
Either way I'm looking forward to next weeks episode.

Just caught up. Ayamom is probably one of the most disgusting sociopath curling parent I've seen recently in anime. I feel nothing but pity for Ayano.
>>863470
From the flashbacks I understand that she was trained and conditioned like a pitbull in an underground fighting arena. To her, badminton was the only way for her to get love from her mother. If she loses, she loses her mothers love and if she wins, she gets some attention. And when she did get abandoned for losing that just affirmed her twisted belief about the sport. As you pointed out, what makes her so pitiful is that she is basically just emulating the mother she hates, her playstyle, ribbon and probably that way of provoking people as well. In addition I found it neat that anything that her mother says or does is disgusting in her eyes. For example her mom says that she does badminton because its fun and then in reaction to that Ayano looking like she stepped in dog shit when Aragaki or her team tells her to have fun with their match.
>Ayano goes from being abandoned innocent puppy to rabid dog really fast. Then she gets a treat and now she's all game-face/butnotcrazy? Meh.
I think its believable, its more like Ayano never really had any positive experiences with badminton and because of that only knew of talking shit and being venomous as fuck. After all, if you provoke your opponent your chances of winning go up. So when she now gets praise for playing I think she found some value in the sport outside of taking vengeance on #1 mom. However if she just forgets and forgives everything and acts like it never happened just like that I will get pissed because so far I think the show has been pretty solid.

Bullshit ending. This and Happy Sugar Life were written by spineless retards and chickens. This whole story was a waste of time. Harukana Receive was better. Both this and Happy Sugar Life had so much more potential and both went to trash in the last episode.
The real ending is Hanesaki's win and jamming a racket down her mothers throat. The turbo butch dyke loses because her knee gives out in the final point. Ayano does the eyes and death and says "see? hard work destroys your body. only the talented win". Butch dyke needs surgery and never plays again. Bonus if she offs herself for being a waste of animation budget.

I'm okay with win her losing. I'm okay with her finding something to love about the sport instead of simply playing for revenge. Alright. But dropping all that baggage that was built up over 12 episodes in a single moment? What the fuck? Her mom never even apologized at all.
Maybe its different in the source material that shows more detail or something but it felt a bit rushed. Overall the show is a solid 5.5/10.

That's why the ending is bad, the entire season is pointless if she's just going to suddenly forgive her mom because she had a good match. The only lead up to this was "why do you play badminton" shit, which still doesn't justify her being okay with abandonment.

This show was a genuinely interesting psychological drama disguised as a sports anime, until the last two episodes in which it suddenly became a pure sports anime with all of the drama being wiped away in the true fashion of only the most generic, cliche sports anime.
Ayano's childhood of psychological trauma is cured in the space of one game thanks to the magic and fun of SPORTS, the girl who worked hard and was nice to people wins through sheer force of will despite being injured because the most honorable person wins in SPORTS, and the drama between Ayano and her mother is resolved anticlimactically without ever addressing the issue and without any attempt at apology because Ayano had fun playing SPORTS and this makes all that childhood trauma okay.
What a fucking trainwreck. I want my 260 minutes back, but all I can do is spitefully delete these episodes as permanently as possible with a file shredder.
No.866879
I began reading the manga after watching this. And it kind of shocked me how different it was because the main character is actually the Coach. Watching this show I always thought the Coach was a cool character but I never thought they would just discard so many good things about the manga. I get they were trying to do something different for the adaptation, and I wholeheartedly appreciate it but they just butchered it a bit too much. I bet the whole resolution of Ayano's trauma was handled way differently too.
