Gothic lolita fashion is as the name implies a style of clothing and not part of the loli character group. Anyone can dress in goth loli clothing but this does not make them a loli. Example: Kurumi from DAL.
Back to the topic of the thread. Its hard to make goth loli look bad. Frills and ribbons are always a good choice.

Also many chuuni characters wear gothloli simply because it fits their chuuni image but theres no requirement for a chuuni to wear gothloli. Typically gothloli fashion is based around black as the primary color with white, red, or pink as accent colors. I don't think it is considered gothic if the primary colors are light pastels or white since that would just be lolita fashion or start getting into more generic dress or ojousama style.

Gothic lolita is essentially the perfect clothing for girls. Its only rival is its sibling fashion type that I only recently found out is named sweet lolita. Fittingly considering their names, they work best on lolis or slender girls.

I don't know, anons. The entire fashion statement of gothic lolita is fine for chuunis, but in anime/manga, the majority of the time gothic lolita is either associated with vampires (which the Japs always seem to fuck up one way or another) or with characters that are extremely weak/emaciated/diseased/etc. In anime/manga I'd much rather just stick to the gothic look or the lolis, as individually the two designs do their job and feature the fullness and wellness of their designs and their characters. I'd say the only thing I've read in the last few years that really pulled off the gothic look without looking incredibly weak/superficial are Liar-soft visual novels like Sekien no Inganock & Shikkoku no Sharnoth.
