No, I'd say they got better. I thought the first three were absolute shit, but the last three got a bit better. Still not as good as any of the actual anime series though.

See it's clearly made with the intention of getting the nostalgia audience, but then does everything it can to be as different to the original series, that the nostalgia audience actually liked, as possible. As you said, it's all slice of life bullshit with no plot or action. Not to mention the fact that so much of it revolves around the biggest Mary Sue since Rey from Star Wars, with all the characters immediately loving her more than anything for no reason. You'd almost think it's because she's another Chosen Child, but they explicitly don't give a flying fuck about the kids from 02, and then there's the dozens or hundreds of others that are both seen and implied at the end of 02. But whatever, that's why I wanted a sequel to a 20 year old anime about giant robots and monsters with deep as fuck lore, so that I could get a sequel about cute girls doing cute things with no story.
By the fourth movie you start getting a bit more action and the story starts ramping up, and then the sixth is a clusterfuck with so much convoluted shit and lots of action. And to be fair, I'd like that if the whole series was like that, because that's what most of the franchise is like, but here it just feels like they ran out of time and had to jam all sorts of exposition in at the last second. Maybe I'll like it more upon rewatch, but finding good downloads for non-crunchyroll versions is hard. Or at least versions that aren't cut up into episodes, ruining the pacing even more than usual. I've found 1-4 so far, but this is my way of asking if anyone knows where I can get a sub file for movie 5, and any good download of movie 6.
