>Almost all of the characters are well written and feel very real
I personally didn't really feel the relationship between Ichise and Keigo. Keigo himself didn't really leave much of an impression on me.
>I also liked Yoshii from the start, even more so after his actions began to make sense.
As far as I understand it, had Yoshii succeeded, humanity may still have had a chance.
He knows about the Theonormals being an evolutionary dead-end and the surface world having grinded to a halt; knows about the mining of raffia (and as such, the whole existence of the subterran world) being a pointless formality; and probably knows about the Class aspiring to be like the Theonormals.
With his actions, he would've united the people of Lux for the goal of overthrowing the Class. If they actually managed to do that, the surface world would been up for grabs. The Theonormals aren't gonna offer any resistance, are they?
And it may have all worked out if Yoshii didn't completely fail to communicate anything to shithead Shinji. Then, him getting killed by Ichise was the final nail in the coffin. Perhaps that event was part of Ran's prophecy. At least half of it, the other half being the killing of Kano (?).
Hope I got that right so far.
However, I'm still not sure what Yoshii actually is. Is he a Theonormal, like the other surface dwellers? If so, why was he bound to his body. Are Theonormals only free to jump bodies/exist in ethereal form on the surface and turn into regular mortals when they're subterran? Or is it because of Yoshii's affliction? Then what about his friend, the train guy. Are the two perhaps not Theonormals, but regular humans who were working on the surface for some reason?

>I still don't know entirely why Shinji killed all those guys
Because they oppressed the citizens of lux, waged a genocidal war on them and fuck them?
