I would be surprised if anything in that city was actually lethal, even unforeseen Parasite guests. The residents of the city live in pairs, taking turns on the Dopamine Machine and doing basic maintenance to stay alive, while the Plantation sucks down magma to shield them from the radiation outside and power its decandence industrial complex. With reproduction being a lost art, or even possible at all for its aging residents, it would surprise me to see any residents of the city die. The social commentary is so thick, you can cut it with a knife.

The Parasites, a name so ironic that it must be a future plot point, are clearly an experiment in the now-mysterious Old Ways, with the kids being used as guinea pigs to extract its wisdom and protect the Plantation's way of life. I would not be surprised if the kids desert the colony and join the Klaxosaurs, or engage in some type of Fourth Turning civil war to overthrow these walking zombies with Dr. Franxx at the helm to create a more traditional, but still anti-Klaxosaur, society. They might even frame it as a return to bushido, or a Paradise Lost-type fall from grace - giving up dull, hedonistic immortality for a temporary life lived fully.

What bothers people the most is that on the 11th episode in a 24-episode, Indonesian sock puppet show where the main appeal is the main lovey-dovey couple and the themes of fidelity, communication, emotional maturity, and healthy vs unhealthy societies, Kokoro, who selfishly chose to help the "bad boy" and "show that I'm not nice, little girl boohoo" because she couldn't keep her hormones to herself, did not receive a single bit of repercussion. Even after lying, cheating, threatening directly the lives of her new bf, ex, and fellow pilot and indirectly the lives of everyone else, disobeying orders and threatening the mission, there is not one negative comment.

Guess what anon, in the real world, if you cheat, lie, or break your promises, you will get punished, someway, somehow. What transpired in the show was far from "realistic", nor was it good. Now, if Nishigori wants to show that NTR leads to nothing good, he then has to force it into the narrative, rather than letting the consequences authentically play out like a good story would.
