Press "F" to pay respect.

They killed it? I figured that would happen when I read the first chapter and saw it was nothing like the one shot and was in fact way, way shittier than it.

I figured that the chapters after the one-shot was a prequel, and the short story is a preview of Noah's comfy adventures after graduating.

 No.799739

Noah was so damn bland. Glad they killed it.

He's no worse than any other shonen protagonist. In fact, having a flat personality is very much in character for a golem like him. If the series hadn't been shitcanned, I'm sure we would have eventually gotten an arc where they deal with the fact that his emotions are On/Off switches instead of 1-10 dials.

He was much morel likeable in the one-shot though. Pretty big mistake, making a good one-shot and then doing a serialization that is nothing about it, and even change the main character that much.

My thoughts exactly. He wasn't an interesting protag, even by Shounen battle manga standards. He was just a worse version of Naruto with that dead-eyed shit-eating grin on his dumb fucking face all the time.

The fact that he was a golem who could use magic on himself and shapeshift to adapt in a world full of single-purpose golems already made him unique enough to possibly carry the series.. But having him be the "If I fail a thousand times, I'll just keep trying until I miraculously master it!" protag, combined with them, "FRIENDSHIPFRIENDSHIPFRIENDSHIPFRIENDSHIP" protag, just made it a chore to read. Even his shitty father was more interesting because he was a terrible failure.

I was really hoping the father would be the protagonist when I started reading.

I expected it to get cancelled really fast, neither the oneshot nor the first chapters were any good.

I am still laughing that Jump decided to give the serialization spot to Golem Hearts and not to Ariadne.

Their editors are incompetent, and the ammount of good series that get rejected by them is staggering.

Bumbling magic dad and his stupid golem son going on adventures would have been far more interesting for so many reasons.

>>799888

How many have they serialized and shitcanned in the past year alone? I'm surprised that Robot x Laserbeam is still going, but that series does not have the potential to last for hundreds of chapters. They really need to get their shit together, otherwise all they'll have is One Piece, Dr Stone, and Hero Academia at this rate.

Don't forget about Promised Neverland

I honestly hate jump. These guys axe a lot of good shit because "muh polls" and they not being able to beat out one piece or other bullshit that hugs their top charts all the time. I think everyone should just say fuck that group and go with other companies that will let them have their runs.

> These guys axe a lot of good shit because "muh polls"

That's also true for the other big magazines.

If you want to write for a popular magazine, then you need to be ready to face competetion.

WSJ is the most popular magazine, and also the most competetive.

Every author is aware of this, but they still go to WSJ, because they want to be the next big thing.

> I think everyone should just say fuck that group and go with other companies

Your manga sells much better when you're writing for a big magazine.

This is especially true for mediocore manga, you profit extremly from the large audience a big magazine has.

> companies that will let them have their runs

People don't care about having their runs. They want the big audience from the magazines with a 400k+ circulation.

 No.800223

>>800141

WSJ has some really bad editors and Nips have objectively shit taste. We're talking about editors who pushed Kubo to keep going despite how retarded and unpopular Bleach was. People who specifically seek out formulaic, cliche battle series and then throw up their hands and axe them a month later when they don't catch on... But it can't be helped, because those same audiences love shitty characters like Sasuke, but then reject other series for having the same edgy grimderp rival archetype.

I would've liked it if both of them had trained together, with Noah "graduating" first while his pops stayed behind with the pink haired chick until he stopped being a klutz but would still check up on Noah. The manga had great potential for father-son bonding elements which many stories these days lack a lot. We could've gotten a lot of flashback bonding. The serious would probably have done better by having Noah's past be presented in flashbacks or not do such a sudden timeskip as soon as his training starts. Then again, editors tend to fuck with new authors a lot. Is it possible the editors are at fault for the manga deviating so much from the one shot in terms of characterization and pacing?

 No.803278

>>803115

I'll have to seek out the one-shot. Really, the first chapter was interesting when Noah was just a weird golem that could be upgraded battle network style. If it had stuck with him and his dad defending the town or something, it'd have been fun for a little longer. Unfortunately, I don't think it would've lasted regardless because Noah's personality is frustrating as all hell. He really was Naruto turned up to a thousand.

I don't mind a happy-go-lucky personality, but he kicked into it so hard that it was irritating by chapter three and then he started spewing that friendship garbage without having a bond with the cast. It was so forced. What a shame.

Could've been something fun like a mix up of Astro Boy and Battle Network.

 No.803743

>>803278

I liked his initial characterization in the one shot, which was basically Edward Elric if he wasn't such a massive asshole. But still, even in the main series, its true, his personality now is as irritating as any other fucking shonen protag, but I wouldn't call it a Naruto since Noah seemed way less smug and obnoxious. Just overly enthusiastic and too dumb for his own good.

 No.803857

>>803743

He was a Luffy, which is almost as bad.

 No.810871

Good riddance, it was a bad series anyway.
