She looks so excessively generic, so incredibly basic and yet so incredibly easy to pick out in a crowd.

Does a sword need a novelty shape and engravings to be more effective? No, you want it tested and upgraded and retested until its basic form is pitch perfect. Samely, here you are looking at the final result of the long process of weaponization in rumiko takahashi brunettes.

Lum is the antithesis of these types of girl. She's exotic, literally from another planet, she can fucking fly and shoot lightning out of her ass. She cooks with bazookas and lasers and speaks with a quirky accent. She doesn't act shy and demure around the man she likes, but she goes the fuck after him like a wild animal.

Because her style is old as fuck and there's no profit in imitating it so even when it's simple and generic as fuck nobody imitates it, there's also the fact that her shit is well-known so other authors won't try to look similar in fear of being called copycats.
This kind of explains why you won't see shit getting close to looking like her works, helping it stick like a sore thumb.
Mitsuru adachi's characters also give the same feel, his art is simple as fuck too but once you read one of his works, you will know shit is drawn by him even from a mile away.

Most of InuYasha's plot takes place in an eternal loop.
The gang attacked Naraku. InuYasha's sword didn't work because of some new form of defense. So the gang went on a mini-adventure to upgrade the sword. Then the gang attacked Naraku again, this time successfully. Kagome shoots an arrow and almost kills him but he gets away. And we're back at the beginning.
I don't even remember how many power-ups Tessaiga had at the end.
Namek was harmless against this shit.
That is not to say that normal shonen manga have deeper plots or anything. But the ones with a plot line have plot development every once in a while, and just about all of them have some form of pay-off for the protagonist, and don't have him fail at defeating the same villain for 50 consecutive volumes.

If anyone cares, I seem to remember that Lum's hair had an interesting sort of iridescence. In the original character design it was supposed to range from it's well known green/deep green clear down into some dark red colors with highlights, with color changes inbetween (try imagining tilting a CD back and forth under a lamp, but then darken the shades of the colors). The only reason her default hair color is green now is because of the TV show I believe. They didn't want to have to figure out the light transitions between X number of different colors and shades every time she moved, so they made her hair color mostly green.

One of the plot points that bothered me even when the series debuted was how Onigumo became Naraku. All Onigumo did to become Naraku was give his burnt up body to countless minor demons and by being consumed by them they would all somehow fuse together, and that's how he became Naraku. That sounds awfully simplistic, so much so that it was partially retconned later so that one of the minor demons was a spider demon that was somehow Naraku in a lesser form.
But that still doesn't change the fact that all you have to do to become a super powerful bishounen demon is to decide one day to have countless minor demons consume your human body and somehow that will cause a fusion to occur. They will somehow be there once you decide for that to happen. This really bothered me even when I was a fan way back in the day.

Astute. A decade ago I stopped following this anime on AS around episode 60 when I realized it was just going to be endless filler, and that the romance sub plot was never going to be resolved. So what I was inadvertently implying there was that, maybe in the remaining 100 episodes, she is developed more. Maybe some more depth, personality, and just general likeability is given to her character. I don't know.
